Recommended Posts

Scrublink... I belong to a fourm here in kansas (who would have thought white water in kansas?) and there is alot of knowledgeable guys on the fourm.
I bet you can find a fourm group for your area.

www.kansaswhitewater.org is what I found.. you can post there as well, people from out of state visit the site.

Hi -- What would you like to know? I dont know much about the techie bits... I just go out and bimble up and down a river (great for a workout and saves me old knees from running injuries).

I have a Perception Dancer clicky - which I use on the flat waters of Cambridgeshire (I also use it when I marshall for a series of adventure races - also on flat water... I dont do scary stuff) - It suits me fine.

Not whitewater just flat water. If so could you PM me. I am trying to decide between a couple different models and would like a sounding board or two.

Thanks.

I would like to try whitewater, but It looks like a lot of planning must go into an excursion. I figure that since I am so close to other types of water I can just go paddle after work. Seems like a good way to keep active and keeps you outside. After I figure this out I will probably pursue white water.

It sounds like you're interested in paddling on the lake, which is great, but eventually you're going to want to do whitewater because whitewater is where things start to get fun in a kayak.

My advice would be to get an older model whitewater boat like a Pirouette or a Dancer. They work great in flatwater cause they're fast [long straight hull] and are awesome beginner riverrunning boats as well. They are easy to roll and you can get them used for cheap [$200-300]. Remember you'll need to spend money on a paddle, sprayskirt, pfd and helmet too...

Definately don't buy any boat new! They last forever. I have one boat that fell off the van into a Talus filled ravine at 45mph... it was fine!

Hey i have a river runner, it works fairly well for flat water (not real fast) and works pretty good for whitewater also. I picked it up used for 350.00. Both are fun, and i usually get to do both on my trips. B|
