Silverchic 0 #1 March 28, 2006 I feel the need to vent..... I HATE CYCLONES! I haven't been able to jump for the past two weeks (first week I was sick and last weekend we didn't have a plane ) and NOW - when I'm not sick, we have a plane and I have a whole weekend: Cyclone Glenda is being a right royal pain in the *** and is heading our way just in time for the weekend! We're already on watch...just imagine how windy it's going to be by Saturday morning... How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? yamtx73 0 #2 March 28, 2006 I feel for you... we'll be going thru the same thing here about July or so.... The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
Silverchic 0 #3 March 28, 2006 You guys get cyclone season as well?? Sucks doesn't it? We're onto watch # 5 for this year! Unfortunately we aren't through the worst of it yet - the worst cyclones have hit here mid April...How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Squeak 17 #4 March 28, 2006 Thats whatya get for living so far North, come on down to Perth, and jump the CaravanWe don't get cyclones down here GemmaYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! yamtx73 0 #5 March 28, 2006 Well... it's hurricane season not cyclone season but they're the same thing...The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
Silverchic 0 #6 March 28, 2006 Do you usually get many come through? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
yamtx73 0 #7 March 28, 2006 Depends on the year... my first 4 years in Florida we had a couple... the past 2 years we've had 6 or 7... 3 of which came thru here...The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...
Silverchic 0 #8 March 28, 2006 They're good fun aren't they (the false alarms at least) - everyone rushes around getting food, filling up their cars, filling up their beer fridges etc etc. We're only a small town so the supermarket sells out of bread and milk within 2 hours and then there is standing room only in the whole shop...How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? yamtx73 0 #9 March 28, 2006 I live just outside a fairly large city, everything sells out in a couple hours.... food, water, beer, gas, plywood... I can understand the food, water, beer and gas but the plywood? Don't they keep it to use next time?? The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers... Silverchic 0 #10 March 28, 2006 Plywood???? OMG! We don't usually drink the tap water here (too much calcium that makes it taste horrible) so most of us already have a good supply of bottled water...but the food and beer definitely grows legs and walks out the door... I'm pretty much sorted now - just need the beer which I will get after work. How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage? Icon134 0 #11 March 28, 2006 ultimately we as skydivers are slaves to the weather... and you can either accept that and not worry about it or stress over the weather which you have no control over anyhow... Silverchic 0 #12 March 28, 2006 Unfortunately it's not just for skydiving - once we get on Red Alert you can't even leave your house and most of the time you wouldn't want to! So it doesn't just mean I can't jump this weekend - it also means I probably won't be able to even go outside! Last one that came through I was pretty much drunk for 3 days straight...although to look on the VERY bright side: I was drunk for 3 days and STILL getting paid for it! How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
seedy 0 #13 March 28, 2006 I just got back to the states a couple of weeks ago from a business trip to Port Hedland. I was there just in time for Cyclone Emma to come thru. We only got the edge of it in Port Hedland, but that was my first experience with a cyclone, so it was interesting. Enjoyed what I managed to see of Australia in the two weeks I was there (most of it in Port Hedland). I did get a day in Perth and another in Sydney. I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. Silverchic 0 #14 March 31, 2006 Port Headland?! You didn't just say you enjoyed Port Headland???? Did you? Port Headland would have to be one of the places in Australia I would say: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE! The other one is just down the road from me - Roebourne. According to a travel show it is very "Historical", and "Picturesque"...I don't think they were talking about the same place though... Hedland however is great, I taught there for a short while, it's very central (as central as possible in the Pilbara) to all sorts of places. Plus the people were cool tooShouldn't you be under a rock or something hidding from the Cyclone? You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS!
