SkydiveStMarys 0 #3 March 31, 2006 Nope sorry your wrong..superstitious people are afraid of what might happen if they do or don't do something....God doesn't retaliate...at least thats what I think. skymama 37 #5 March 31, 2006 My son is very superstitous, especially when it comes to the #13. Besides it being Dan Marino's number (he has a Dolphins room), he thinks the #13 brings him luck. He always requests it for his sports jerseys every year and lucky for him, other kids don't want it. Last Fall, he sprained his ankle in his first game of the season on the 13th day of the month while wearing the #13 jersey. When we went to the ER to see if it was broken, they put us in exam room #13. He was very excited and took that as a sign that it wouldn't be broken! He also has a routine for how he HAS to put on his uniform and equipment in a certain order. Last year, he had to wear a certain ball cap before the game and listen to "Under Pressure" by Queen. He has actually let that superstition go this year, I think the hat got too nasty. Last weekend, he scored his first goal of the season. On the ride to the field before the game, he ate crackers, a banana, a power bar and drank Gatorade. We have a tournament this weekend...he said we have to have those exact foods with us! cocheese 0 #9 March 31, 2006 Ok , I never say "I'm making one last jump or whatever". I say "I'm making ANOTHER jump."My friend said he was making "one last flight today" with his r/c plane. I told him to correct that statement with the word "another". He crashed. Seen a bunch of jinxed reserve rides too. Weird.Back to religious superstition.... if one thinks a mystical force will affect the outcome of something..... where do you draw the line ?

SpeedRacer 1 #11 March 31, 2006 religious people don't pray in order to have a big invisible hand come out of the sky & fix things. They pray to get themselves in touch with God. By being spiritually focused, they can have enough emotional strength & not get caught up in the anxiety of the details of the physical world. This distancing from material/physical concerns gives them the calmness & grace to deal with difficult situations properly. Richards 0 #14 March 31, 2006 Yes. I find it critical to be pessimistic. Every time in my life where I started being optimistic, circumstances kicked me in the teeth. If I always assume the worst things tend to turn out OK. Richards My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within. Flygurl 0 #15 March 31, 2006 Well, I do "pet" every plane before I get on... commercial, private and jump planes. Other than that, not really. Now that I think about it I've never given heli's or balloons the same treatment. Weird.________________________________________ "One out of every four American's are suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you."
