Very nice pictures. Practically all my family are Scottish so i've been past the castle many times on the train but never been in it. Really is a magnificent building. Thanks for sharing.

Whilst near the castle did you visit the camera obscura on the Mile ... It gives an intersting perspective of the city.
I love Edinburgh. I was stationed at RAF Turnhouse for a period and had a great time.

It took about 4 and a half hours to go round the castle and that was with the Royal apartments being closed :S it was very busy that day due to it being national heritage day with free entry to all their sites over the weekend:)

some more pics

16. secondary inner gate
17. upper defenses
18. upper defense entry gate
19. entrance to war memorial
20 Angel on memorial east side.

I just wish i could have taken pics of the inside of the memorial but didn't think it was appropriate to the people who where viewing the books of the fallen you would really have to have visited it to understand.

very cool.

do they still have that room that is like the inside of a camera that uses a mirror mounted on the top of the castle to see all around?

Pretty sure. It's a room that has a tall chimney above it and at the top is a series of mirrors that eventually project on a white table top in the middle of the room. It was 12 years ago or so when I was there, so maybe it's gone now. It was pretty cool though.
