LawnDart21 0 #27 April 4, 2006 In the 1950's we had 16 workers working to support every 1 retiree in the social security system. Like a wing loading, it was 16:1 Right now it's approx 3.3 to 1. Under the current system, today's 30-year-old worker will face a 26% benefit cut when he or she reaches normal retirement age. And that's the good news........lol Imagine this scenario: Let's say your married or have a SO, and you both retire at 65 and live to be 85 together. 20 years x 365 days x 3 meals a day= 21,900 meals you will each eat in your retirement years. Fogetting the high end "In before 4pm - Seniors Dinners" at the local restaurant, if most of your meals are grocery store home cooked (most economic) meals, your looking at an average cost of $5 per meal per person. 21,900 x 2 (people) x $5 per meal = $219,500 $219,500 your gonna spend just on food in your retirement years (and that's in today's dollars). Who's got 1/4 million dollars under the mattress for dinner? -- My other ride is a RESERVE.

She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

PLFXpert 0 #31 April 4, 2006 QuoteI think I see "Wal-Mart Greeter" in my future. You might see some early retiree's there, too. Finding affordable medical insurance for those under 65 and retired is nearly impossible. Many go work for Walmart just for the insurance. My hunny has a family friend who was a successful salesman in his day. I don't really know why he didn't figure out the health insurance part, but for whatever reason he now works in the sporting goods department at Walmart for the health insurance benefits. The funny part was a teen sales manager sending him home one day when he was on the verge of selling more than $1k worth of sports equipment but did not stop to take his 15-minute required break. Sucks. But it's a funny story.Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I have to concern myself with~ market trends, return on investments, nontaxable liquidation of assets, projected life expectancy... Thank God I took that savvy advise a while back, and went from real estate and mutual funds to 'Wax Lips' futures...A little 'heads up' investing and you too can be SET FOR LIFE! Hell, I can feed my family prime rib for that price. You can eat a lot cheaper than that. I think I could live on $5 of food a day.
