GMS or GPS Tracking units?

Recommended Posts

I have been told from a boss that certain people's company vehicles are being tracked via GPS. My buddy got a new company truck and we popped the hood and there on the battery cable was a self contained electronic something that neither one of us have ever seen. It's clamped right to the battery clable in a way that looks like it's intended to pull power. It also has a line going to the fuse box. There is a 25 amp fuse in the box where the sunroof's fuse should be, but he has no sun roof. I pulled a part number off of it and it starts GMS ARVC and an 8 digit number.

Does anyone recognize this sequence of letters or can offer any help to see if this is the device we think it is? I can give more info as needed to determine what it is.
Pm's or posts are fine.
Thanks
Mike

It is very likely.

Did you ever see the IBM commercial about the trucker that was lost . . .
UPS trucks and Fedex trucks and almost all Central Freight trucks ahve this - not to mentin all the USPS trucks.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

What is your friend's concern about his work vehicle having some sort of positioning system in it, anyway?

Companies track your location and speed. My company does it with the Nextel phones, using cell tower triangulation. If you exceed 70 mph you automatically get a warning, sent to the manager from a computer printout which looks for such things. Accumulate a few warnings, and you can get terminated. And on some Houston freeways, if you're not doing 70 mph, you get run over...

Such systems make mistakes too. I once got warned for doing "83 mph" on a street where such behavior would be suicidal. The boss wrote it up as an error, which it was.

On the other hand, it can save you from a traffic ticket too. We had one driver get ticketed for speeding by radar, who claimed he was innocent. The Nextel tracking data supported his innocence. He took that data to court and got the ticket dismissed. So it can cut both ways.

Our concern is to not be tracked while we're fucking off instead of working, if it really is a matter to you.

How's that for an answer to your little question?
Thanks for the help anyway.

LOL... sound like you need to be using your OWN vehicles from now on, then!
