arlo 0 #26 March 31, 2006 hey guys, this is what i've found out so far regarding the logistics of donating blood "for credits." for blood to be "credited", FL blood center requires the following: * patient's full name * date of birth * the hospital the patient is in * name of the doctor ordering the blood * date of surgery (if applicable) it used to be that people could give blood and it's given directly to the hospital, blah blah. it became a logistical nightmare according to the FL blood center, so they stopped that particular process. long story short, it's not a direct credit in the sense of his mom being denied blood because credits aren't there. the patient of course will receive all the blood she needs, crediting is our way of replacing what she's used and fluffing the numbers for her in the likely event more blood is needed. if this doesn't make sense, PM me and i'll try to further explain what little bit i found out. i unfortunately did not find out about out-of-state donations, but i would suspect this question can be asked when you donate. worse case there isn't a way to do it and you still donate the gift of life. now the procedure is to give the aforementioned info, so whenever the patient's name comes up for billing or whatever, there will be information there showing that "x-number of units were donated in Jane Doe's name to replenish the supply that their units were drawn from." anyway, on that note, for folks local to deland, if there is enough interest, i'm gonna see about getting the bloodmobile to visit somewhere close by to make it convenient for everyone. not sure about the timetable or anything because i'm just tossing this idea around for now. currently, donations may be made at the following location: FL Bloodbank 1730 South Woodland Blvd Deland, FL the number there is 734-4447 hours are M-W-F.....9am-5pm, Tu - Th.....11am-7pm. i'll post more info about a local blood drive after i talk to the bloodmobile peeps. if any of you guys would be interested in a during the week donation in deland, PM me so i can sorta get a head count to give the bloodbank... hope this helps.... a
