Would you feel confident...

...if your Cypress2 was installed in a hurry by an angry rigger? I've been contemplating having another rigger look at it to make sure the installation was done correctly. What would you do?

The worst is watching riggers watching other riggers... it always seems like neither of them know what they're doing when they start talking.

:D:D:D I'm a rigger, and I still know what you mean. Since a lot of us do 95% of our work solo, we have to figure out our tricks mostly on our own... which means that when we see another rigger we usually see their tricks as something completely new! Then that leads to conversations where two riggers are debating the best way to do something, and anyone overhearing probably gets a bit uncomfortable.

My solution? I'm my own rigger!

HA! Now that would make me really nervous!

I'm going to find another rigger to check it out. It makes me mad I have to do this but I want to be sure everything is ok.

If it's worth peace of mind, yes. Having another rigger open up your container may involve repacking your reserve too, but maybe the angry rigger did your repack too and you'll question that also.......

ps: Dont make your rigger angry. ;)

If you jump, you have to have 100% confidence in your reserve, and by extension, the guy who put the whole thing together. If you don't have that 100%, get a different rigger!

I agree. If you can't watch your rigger pack your reserve without confidence, how the hell can you just give it to him/her and just say " give it back when its repacked" without having that confidence. I personally use a few different riggers based off their availability ( i tend to be the person that realizes my repack is due a day or two before i plan on jumping), Each one of them i trust with my life. Hurried or not. i feel they would make the right decision and if i ever felt uncomfortable, I would question them about it.

I remember when the stuff under those reserve flaps looked all new and scary. I can understand how a regular jumper would feel because they're so used to seeing and packing mains. If I recall correctly only the rigger who packed the reserve should technically open the pack job and then reseal it without doing a complete repack.

One thing I don't understand and it may be because I'm so new to the sport is why $60 or $80 is that big of a deal to so many? It's your life.

$80? Who's packing your reserve? :S

I enjoy watching my reserve get packed. I've watched almost every time, and I've used 3 different riggers. If you have any doubt in the fact that your Cypres may not be installed correctly, have it checked. Oh, and don't use that rigger again, because if someone else opens your reserve they have to completely re-pack it.

Who is packing my reserve? To be honest... me.

care to explain?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hackish attended a CSPA Rigger A Course last month and passed the written exam.
The last thing I heard was that he was completing his ten (pre-test) reserve pack jobs and preparing for his practical exam with Andre Lemaire or Neil McGrath.
That is all within CSPA's guidelines for training new riggers.

Why are you being so tough on the lad???????????

looks like I asked a simple question.

Care to explain why you think I am being "tough on the lad"?

I hate watching riggers work.... everything they do looks wrong to me. Seeing the inside of a reserve container is like watching open heart surgery. Just gross. :)

I know, its still that way for me... so I do the repacks with my eyes closed:D

I have no problem working in front of the owner, or (most) other riggers... but as most have pointed out, one rigger can't keep from discussing technique with another rigger while watching.

I do think that I ought to change to an hourly rate when people watch though... takes twice as long as I spend as much time teaching as I do rigging...

Sample Price Sheet:
I&R - $x
I&R w/ you observing - $x + y/hour
I&R w/ your help - $x + 2*y/hour
I&R w/ your rigger's help - $x + 4*y/hour
