arlo 0 #1 April 18, 2006 okay, so i just saw this. take a bottle of soda and as fast as you can, drop in a pack or more of mentos. the trick is to rig up something that will allow all the mentos to fall into the 2 liter bottle as rapidly as possible (think tube with trap door). i'm sure this can be done on a smaller scale with a 20oz soda, but make sure the bottle is secured. do this outside. report back. arlo 0 #4 April 18, 2006 i don't think so. matter of fact, they recommend using diet soda because it doesn't contain sugar and is much easier to clean up the mess (for those that opt to do it in the house). if you do it in the house, for the love of god, please take video of this. Tihs could be done with most candy. I remember eating bottle caps as a kid and taking a big swig of coke after I had crushed up the candy in my mouth. Foam and hilarity ensued. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.

If you have access to a sonic cleaner, just like what the jeweler uses to clean jewelry, you can shoot a steady stream of coke 30+ ft into the air. Leave the lid on, use a nail to poke a small hole in the top, put the bottle in the cleaner, switch on. Stand back. scottbre 0 #17 April 19, 2006 So could you put an unopened package of mentos into a 2 liter of coke, and then screw the cap back on, so that the packaging of the mentos would act as a time delay "fuse" creating a huge bang? Or would the presence of pressure mute or stop this reation so that the contents in the bottle would get really pressurized but wouldn't explode? turtlespeed 226 #19 April 19, 2006 Might I suggest the stuff that capsules are made from. You cold put Pop Rocks in a a couple of empty vitamin capsules, drop them in, close the lid and run away. I'll let you know the answer to that tomorrow - I've been devising a way to do this all day. I used to do this with dry ice and water in a soda bottle. Fill with warm water, put in dry ice and close the cap. Some people called them "dry ice bombs." Not liking the idea of my booming device being called a "bomb" I merely referred to one as a "phase transitory medium." They make a big boom when they went off. My wife is hotter than your wife. scottbre 0 #25 April 19, 2006 Well my thinking was: could you create a small, fairly harmless (albeit messy) bomb from food stuff that you can buy pretty much anywhere for under $3. My hypothesis, from the videos that I've watched of this without the cap being on the bottle, is that with the cap on, it probably won't be a strong or fast enough reaction to rupture the bottle. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. Stay tuned.
