leroydb 0 #1 April 20, 2006 Top 5: Ways to learn more about yourself by Nicole Fuggs published on Thursday, April 20, 2006 Photo courtesy of KRT Wire 1. Travel by yourself: Backpack through Europe or study abroad without the security of your pals. This could be your chance to do and see things you want to, not do and see what your little brother, your parents or your girlfriend want to. Exploring places on your own forces you to rely on yourself. 2. Trace your roots: Finding out more about your ancestors can tell you a lot about who you are and who you'll become. Talk to your grandparents about their parents and their memories. Remember, you're taking the risk of possibly finding out more than you ever wanted to know. Noon - 6pm 3. Make your life a "Family Guy" episode: Try to recall the funniest or most memorable moments in your life. Then, write it out as if it were a sitcom. This is a great way to record your memoirs for your children to read someday or just compose a story that will make your friends laugh. 4. Don't be a prude: This doesn't mean go out and have a bunch of sex. It means try things that you never thought you would. It could be as simple as eating Indian food for the first time or as daring as bungee B.A.S.E jumping (leaping from high places with a parachute and a prayer that you land safely). 5. Take a road trip with friends: Discover how much you can put up with, since everyone takes on different roles in the car: the snoring sleeper, the backseat driver, the singer and the person who loves the out-of-state-license-plate game just a little too much. You may have been on road trips before, but spending time with your buddies in such close quarters is the best ways to learn who you are by discovering more about your friends.Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio... SpeedRacer 1 #11 April 20, 2006 I love traveling alone! I went to Alaska by myself for a week and a half, & I had a blast! Great thing about traveling alone: h You do what you want, when you want. You don't have to worry about reaching a consensus with anyone. You don't have to listen to other people whine about walking too far (I will walk a lot more than most people will put up with) and if you want to do something on the spur of the moment, you just need to grab your shit & go. No need to wait around for other people to spend half the day getting their shit together. I got to go on an all-day cruise to some glacier fields because of that. I was staying at a hostel & I'd called the night before but the cruise people said they were sold out, but there was a small possibility that I could squeeze onto the boat, if they had room. So the next morning at 7 AM I threw some stuff in a bag & ran down to the docks & managed to talk my way on the boat! I had a blast! I got to see glaciers, seals, whales, bears, floating blue ice, etc etc. Probably would never have happened if I was with someone else.
