Andy_Copland 0 #1 April 21, 2006 Fallen asleep on a train and missed your stop? Happened to me this morning on the way home from work, i only had enough money to get home so what do i do? fall asleep and end up 45 minutes past my stop. Got off and took the next train back, fortunately the ticket bloke laughed it off and said it happens a lot and not to worry, what a top bloke. Thank you ticket man who ever you are!1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue.
LisaM 0 #2 April 21, 2006 When I used to take the train, I was so paranoid about missing my stop, I would go stand by the door 3 stops early! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

jloirsdaan 0 #4 April 21, 2006 .....Sure did. When my wife and I were visiting NYC. We were staying at a hotel near 5th Ave and Central Park South. Coming back from lower Manhattan, after midnight, on the trian we both fell asleep...missed our stop and didn't wake up till around 125th street . I was a little freaked....have heard some bad stuff about Harlem (even though this technically was "Spanish Harlem") though I'm sure it's probably mostly BS. Anyway, got off at that stop and thought..."no biggie we'll just go across the tracks and get back on going south." Nope, there would be none of that . That station was closed. We ended up having to walk 15 blocks south to 110th and Lennox. Fun stuff there.....walking thorough that part of town around 1 a.m. Good times . Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft. DickMcMahon 0 #6 April 21, 2006 I used to work in London and commuted home on the train to Gerrard's Cross (about 30 miles away). The clickety-clack of the train was very hypnotizing and I remember once a stranger next to me fell asleep and put his head on my shoulder without realizing he was doing it. I didn't know quite what to do. I hated to bother him since he was sleeping so good, but at the same time I didn't KNOW him. Even if I did know him, having a guy's head on your shoulder in public looks a little strange. _________________________ Website: Please Click Here Is it still considered a naked skydive if you’re wearing a helmet? jloirsdaan 0 #7 April 21, 2006 ...I don't either. I am from North Carolina in the middle of the woods. I was just visiting. I think its either 1/4th of a mile or 1/8th...... Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft.
flygirl1 0 #8 April 21, 2006 Well not a train, but once a friend of mine "fell asleep" in the back of a cab on the way home to her house form a bar in San Francisco. It was foggy and I didn't notice we had passed her house or that she had passed out until about 3 or 4 miles later.Fly like a girl

AllisonH 0 #11 April 21, 2006 A friend and I both fell asleep on a bus in Italy a few years ago and missed our stop. It wasn't a bus station, just a stop along the side of the road, so when we woke up fortunately I knew where we were, and it only took us ~45 minutes to walk back. wingnut 0 #12 April 21, 2006 i have fallen asleep on trains.... granted i work on them.. both myself and the engineer fell asleep one day while waiting for a signal to change.. woke up probly 10 minutes after it changed and procedded on our merry way.. luckily the dispatcher never came on the radio and asked us what was taking so long....... there actually is in my work rule book a provision on naps at work... 45 minute limit, and the other employee in the engine has to be awake... opps... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"

lawrocket 3 #14 April 21, 2006 A friend of mine fell asleep in his car and missed his exit by about 10 miles. Of course, he created his own exit from the freeway, and took the bus of bummed rides for the next few days. My wife is hotter than your wife.
Icon134 0 #15 April 22, 2006 I've been pretty tired driving a car before... to the point that it was probably dangerous... but I don't ride trains very often and when I was in Japan I was always out with others in the evening... so... nope.Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Daizey 0 #16 April 22, 2006 QuoteIt's neither. It's just a block. What's so hard to understand? When you've never referenced areas in blocks it can be hard to understand...not everywhere is set up in near perfect blocks of area...saying it's "just a block" really does no more to define it if you don't understand the concept. QuoteI was just visiting. I think its either 1/4th of a mile or 1/8th...... Since Manhattan is only 13.4 miles long and 2.3 miles wide at its widest point, that wouldn't allow for too many blocks and Manhattan wouldn't see nearly as huge Generally, its twenty north-south city blocks that equal a mile. They say that if you are a brisk walker, you can cover about a block a minute. As for sleeping on trains. I have often fallen asleep both into and out of NYC-especially leaving the city at 2,3,4 am lol. Never have I fallen asleep on a subway train though! I think you can actually get fined for that now lol. *daizey*

Where I'm from...my block is around a mile. We call the entire street on the sub division a block......so a different city a different size. I was guessing....and now that I actually THINK about it.....it was a dumb guess. I was just being sarcastic, that's all. A block is just a figure of speach and can be any distance depending on the city. There's really no correct answer to the distance of a block. Edit to add: Where I grew up, none of the roads ran parallel with eachother. They were all winding. When we used the phrase 'one block over' it meant the next connecting street.
