bigway 4 #1 April 18, 2006 Can anyone tell me what sort of numbers turn up at this place? Also, is it easy to get there by bus or something from the airports? Ta .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
mx757 4 #2 April 18, 2006 no not easy to get there by bus from airport. You might want to go to WFFC web page and put request for ride / pick up from airport to WFFC. I picked few people up last year. Friends I didn't know I had...but once your at WFFC you can pretty much get everything you need, food, beer, laundrty, etc.

I don't know of any buses running though.

streaker 0 #5 April 18, 2006 If you're coming in from overseas, the best route may be to fly into Chicago. Once at O'Hare you could either rent a car or make arrangements to pick up the Amtrack train that runs to Champaign. If we know for sure when you will be in Champaign we can probably arrange for a ride to Rantoul. Hope you can make it! Beautiful Landings! StreakerHave a yippee ki ya day! Peej 0 #8 April 19, 2006 When i went i caught an Amtrak from O'hare to a Station in Chicago and then another train which stopped right in Rantoul. I met another jumper on the train and we started to walk to the Airport (quite a way) but were picked up shortly by a friendly local. Be warned though, i missed the only train to Rantoul by a few hours and ended up having to get an over priced hotel room for the night. edited to fix spelling Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
bigway 4 #9 April 19, 2006 This is going to be the shit!! only 1000 jumpers last year? does anyone know why? Is it dying off or something? .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
peek 21 #10 April 19, 2006 QuoteThis is going to be the shit!! only 1000 jumpers last year? does anyone know why? Is it dying off or something? The WFFC reflects skydiving in general, which is "dying off" to some degree. There are many reasons for this and they can be debated a long time. Short answer is that boogies of all types are not as "special" as they used to be. Local drop zones that have turbine aircraft may provide all the lift capacity needed for most jumpers, and with no additional travel costs. (People used to travel 3 states away on holiday weekends to jump a DC-3.) So, boogies are looked upon as something different now. I look at the WFFC as a family reunion, and those who have attended for many years know what I mean! Once you get there you will understand.
bigway 4 #11 April 19, 2006 Well i cant wait! Someone is saying go to spaceland instead but i dont see how that could possibly be better than the WFFC. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
CSpenceFLY 1 #12 April 19, 2006 Skyfest is fun also and a great group of people. It's a shame WFFC changed the dates because it made me have to choose. .
RevJim 0 #13 April 22, 2006 What really amazes me is how people spin the numbers. For most boogies, 300 or so turn out and it's an amazing success! When a thousand turn out for the WFFC (There were more, but that's another story), people say it's dead? WTF? The vibe at the WFFC is just plain unreal, if you are open enough in your emotions to accept it. Those going there looking for a reason to hate it will certainly find a reason, but would be able to anywhere. It's a great boogie, and I personally hope it will continue to be so. I'll be there, every year, right up until the time that Don decides to stop taking a vaction! Now, off to "The List!"It's your life, live it! If you are coming to Champaign airport, let me know when and where. We have trucks/vans/shuttles heading back and forth all of the time, and I will make sure we do the best we can to accomodate you, or find a cheap shuttle alternative for you. We'll have a shuttle phone number on the website soon so visit us! Looking forward to meeting you! I may even loan streaker one of the official WFFC vehicles to come and pick you up. Orlando 0 #15 April 23, 2006 Me think is the other way around. You can get a CTA train from Ohare to Chicago Central Station. Check http://www.transitchicago.com/ for options. Once you reach the closest stop to Central Station, you will have to walk two blocks. Once at Central Station you can get an Amtrak train to Rantoul.Saludos, Orlando Hispa #48 || www.amador.org || Xtreme Divers
Orlando 0 #16 April 23, 2006 QuoteThe WFFC reflects skydiving in general, which is "dying off" to some degree. There are many reasons for this and they can be debated a long time. I really hate to think is dying off. I rather think that, like everything else, it is adjusting to the times. QuoteI look at the WFFC as a family reunion, and those who have attended for many years know what I mean! I have to agree with Gary that lately I have come to see Boogies as opportunities to jump with friends, rather than opportunities to jump new planes. Still, there is plenty of opportunity to jump different planes at the WFFC. I have been going to the WFFC for the last 5 years and because of lower numbers I was debating if I would return this year. Then I realize that I never returned to the WFFC because of the jumper numbers, but because of the jumpers there. Every year you get to see the same good people and meet some new ones. And that, is why I'm going back to the WFFC again in 2006. Saludos, Orlando Hispa #48 || www.amador.org || Xtreme Divers

Snowwhite 0 #18 April 24, 2006 no worries either way! We soon will have a sticky on the message board of the www.freefall.com website, so people can share rides, rooms, tents or RVS. We'll also have a phone number posted for a shuttle service and LOTS of people share local rides from the Amtrak/Greyhound/Airport whatever. Heck, I'll just jump on my trusty golfcart and head in your direction if I need to.. BethskydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
