My beloved pet died yesterday. Now I'm really PISSED!!!!

I say shoot the dogs. If the owner is not going to be responsible about his pets he shouldnt own them. All you have to say if and LEO showes up is that you felt threatened, and feared for the life of your newborn after you saw what those dogs did to your pet cat.

Or . . . Sue the owners - you have witnesses. Pain and sufering for negligence would be great.

Have it filed in California. There are some serious pet lover judges there.

Like in South Park...

Look, they coming right at me! BLAM! (of course you have to lure them into coming near, or hide/catch them near you).

There is no way I would want to look forward to the future of those dogs being around as a small child grows up, playing outdoors.
People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

If you retaliate against the dogs, like, say, leaving out lumps of ground beef heavily laced with rat poison, you invite a neighborhood feud that could get very ugly and out of hand. ,

Oh so if he could get away with it it would make sense to kill the dogs?

Of course not. Like the other posters, I was empathizing with his anger, yet urging him not to take it to a level that would make things worse.

Perhaps if you could use this informal means to get an apology from the owners, together with their payment for a replacement,

Oh so an apology will make it all better and you can replace the cat with $100. so everybody could be happy?

Of course not. Just as my beloved pets are priceless to me, his are to him. And that's the way it should be. But since taking the dogs' owners to court was an option being presented to him, and which I imagine he's considering, I was informing him (and mind you, I don't make the rules; I'm just the messenger) that he may find it difficult to get damages beyond the replacement value of the cat; and yet I was still encouraging him to do that so as to validate the legitimacy of his complaint against the owners.

Billy, its not the dogs fault. Its the owner of the dog. Put the owner in a bear trap.

I'm getting upset with my cat cause she keeps killing the birds, but I know thats what she is going to do and unfortunately she does it quite well.

I'm sorry about you kitty. I hope the dogs can be placed in good homes with responsible owners.

No leash law here. It's a small rural town.

Actually most leash laws (that I know of) are at the state level. Ohio and Michigan both have leash laws... dogs are required to be either on a 6 ft leash or contained in a fence.

Its enforced in some areas then others... I will usually let Karma off lead in my parents house (when there are a lot of people around... picnics and such...) or if I go to the beach and I'm going to be throwing stuff for her (because in both situations she is likely to stick close by... and I always keep her in earshot...)

dogs that are allowed to roam are dangerous... both to themselves and others as is evident from this particular situation. :|

I'm sorry to hear about this billy... [:/]

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, Billy! Losing a family pet/member really sucks! Hugs, my friend!

As far as taking revenge out on the dogs, it's not their fault their owners are incompetent assholes that should have never been allowed to own a dog. Obviously follow through with the police. Talk to a lawyer. See if by going through the police and lawyer if you can get the dogs removed from the home and put into a rescue where someone will take care of them as they should be.
Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.

I'm so sorry about your kitty.

Please, keep your two kitties inside, or outside only with your supervision. Even the most wily and street-smart cat isn't much of a match for a dog pack.

Also, you may be able to sue the guy, depending on your local laws. Some states have been taking into account the emotional value of the animal as well as the actual replacement cost, recognizing that getting another pet can't replace the lost one. Other states treat pets simply as property. A lawyer in your state could tell you for sure. If you feel the need for revenge/justice/compensation of some kind, legal measures may be your best option. You don't want to get violent with the dogs or their owner, and you may not even want to confront the owner. If he's that irresponsible with his pets, it's doubtful that anything would come of a simple conversation.

Please keep in mind that the death of your kitty wasn't the fault of the dogs; it was the fault of the irresponsible owner.

If you can't get satisfaction from the police, and don't want to risk being accused of theft (you might want to get this thread deleted), I really, really, like the idea of some nice juicy road kill in front of their house.

Doesn't punish the dogs (they'll love it). Will definitely punish the owners. Make it nice and messy so that they do roll around in it instead of just snarfing it down.

And I'm sorry about losing your kitty. That sucks.

Here are my two favorite pictures of Daisy, the subject of this thread and my favorite kitty.

The first one was taken sometime last year. The second is the last photo taken of Daisy, sometime last week. My newborn baby is in my arm and Daisy's on my leg.

If you have a really good eye, you'll recognize the shirt from the Dublin boogie last year. :P

Yesterday was just like any normal day. It was beautiful outside. I let my cats out to have fun. My wife and I were busy tending to our 2 1/2 week old newborn baby girl, when I heard pounding on my front door. My neighbor across the street told me one of my cats had been attacked by a pack of 4 dogs. He and I ran out to where she was. She was obviously in shock, eyes wide and panting/crying and her midsection looking wet. She would not let my neighbor pick her up, but I gently cradled her in my arms while my neighbor's wife ran out with a towel and we wrapped her up in the towel. I took her inside. She was still breathing and yelping in pain. 2 minutes later she died in my arms.

My neighbor told me his wife saw the attack. The dogs stopped and ran off when she yelled at them. Her husband told me he knew exactly where they came from and was going over to their house to talk to the owner. I saw him come back home a little while later and he said the owner wasn't home. He had been over there many times in the past only to find nobody home. He and many other neighbors have had problems with these marauding dogs roaming the area, getting into the garbage and terrorizing/killing other pets. Animal Control is a joke. They won't do anything because these dogs all have collars.

This cat, my pet, was the last of her litter, which was born right in my house. Her two brothers also perished in the past 2 years, and I am pretty goddamned sure those MOTHERFUCKING dogs did something to them. I have seen those fuckers running across my property many times, and my neighbor has heard them barking all night, and even seen them barking up our oak tree at one of our other cats.

Right now, I keep thinking of what I'm gonna do to those dogs, and every scenario would make me a criminal. There is no law that would get me satisfaction. The only thing that would work is if these dogs bit or attacked a human, but they run as soon as they see someone.

What the fuck am I supposed to do? I have two cats left, and though they are my wariest and cautious cats and they love the outdoors (I have 3 acres for them to roam on) and they are good tree climbers, but those fucking dogs just don't give a shit what they do. It's their nature, and it's their goddamn owner's responsibility to control them, but if the owner's never home for any of us to talk to her, what then? My neighbor is going to talk to the police chief and see what he says. This is a small town, some 2000 people. Maybe in a big city, I could expect results, but a small town in the country?

As far as I'm concerned, if I see those dogs again, I'm going after them. I don't care how, but their roaming days are numbered.

>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(>:(

Screw absolutely every other possibility. GO TO THE PRESS!! The press is the politicians worst nightmare. You have mad, killing pack animals on the loose. You have non-responsive government officials. You are lucky you ONLY lost a pet. These are the things that you must tell the press. Take your neighbolrs to a meeting with the press, with you.
Pack animals think like pack animals. NOT like domesticated animals. These marauding pack animals must be captured and destroyed before a small child or another animal is injured.
Trust me, your local politicians will have someone out there to capture these critters the day after it hits the news.
I have seen this work MANY times.

This is just sick. Does this mean that Waltappel would molest a neighbor's child if this guy had molested his child? Because I would react exactly the same way if somebody did this to one of my dogs or molested my child. I would unload my .45 on that person.
.

It means that if animals attack and kill my cat, it doesn't matter whether the animals are wild or domestic. They killed my cat and are a continuing threat that needs to be dealt with.

Obviously, it would have been better had the cat been an indoor cat, but that just wasn't the case.

Not sure what you mean by "get away with it". It just needs to happen.
