What's with the puffy lips on every chic on tv ?

Recommended Posts

B/c I'm in a mood, I'll be brave and suffer the consequences for the following statements (my opinion):

Yes, you can be rich & trashy. Fake anything is never done "tastefully". Rarely do naturally thin girls have large na-na's. I believe they make a smaller girl look cheap, as do the overly puffed lips, etc. Plastic surgery to me is a cry for attention.[:/]

Natural is the way to go. Learn to love what God gave you people, and WORK IT!:P

Sorry...I'm SO tired of this epidemic. Yes, I understand "the pressures" blah, blah, blah. And yes, it's easier for some to say than others, I guess. I LIVED in an industry for a while that loads on the pressure. But, if you love yourself, it won't get to you for more than two seconds. If you have issues with yourself, you need to work on you MIND, not your body. Your bodies are NOT the problem.

And that's my story;)

For the most part, I agree--especially on breast implants and the really small stuff (eyelids and stuff like that). There are some cases, though, where I'd say the self esteem boost could make a huge difference in someone's life and it makes plenty of sense to go for it.

I understand your point. But I still believe said "self-esteem boost" would be better served and have longer potential if it came from the mind, not the body. Fixing something (I say, "fixing" but that doesn't seem right...) on your body might make one feel better about themsevles for a while, but it is not long-term b/c it does not solve what is REALLY causing one to feel badly about themselves.[:/]

I must add, though, that everyone's line is different. For me, some might call me a hypocrite, but I think teeth are OK. I don't think that falls in the same category as plastic surgery. If one needs teetch straigtened (which is needed to prevent other problems) or whatever, and that has bothered them, I say go for it. But, we all know I'm royally obsessed with my teeth. I have big teeth and they were crooked when I was young. I had braces. I love my smile (and am weirdly complimented on my teeth often) and I admit if it didn't look as it does now, I would probably have issues about it. Having said that, I just don't think that's the same thing as plastic surgery. [:/]

Here's an example, although it's a man. clicky.

I would have to know the story behind that. I see your point. Most often, what I see in the before picture, could be causing breathing or other problems.

Ironically, though, that's the most ANNOYING excuse for a "nose job":D

I broke my nose on a diving board when I was 12 and had it fixed when I was 16. I can tell you, not being able to breath well is definitely annoying for the person who is having the problem. It's a real issue.

Oh, hunny. I know that, silly! I was referring to the girls (or guys, I suppose) with NO breathing issues, but give that as a reason. After the 4th girl in a circle of friends has her nose done and claims it was for "breathing reasons" you know someone is full of shit:P

Again, I find the epidemic annoying, not the people who have it done. I know very good/wonderful/fun people who have had plastic surgery. I disagree with their reasons for having it, but I don't knock them for it. To each their own. ;)

My best friends in life are of the same opinion as me regarding plastic surgery. OK, so I only claim 2 girls as "best friends" in my life, but the three of us are in cahoots at our age of 25---we have already started making sure to take care of ourselves, what we eat, work out, sunblock, drink lots-o-water, etc. to prevent premature aging. Yes, I do those things for overall health, mostly, but I'd be lying to say I don't do them b/c I want to age gracefully. I want to age gracefully.:P I believe I can---my OMA looked like an angelic goddess when she passed, but she was very good to herself. We all have our vices, but you can still take care of yourself and especially take care of your mind to learn to overcome the real issues behind wanting plastic surgery. I wasn't born with my confidence, I had to cognitively learn to change my natural behaviors when faced with pressures of any kind, not just physical. Everyone does. Some have to work harder than others, but the easy way out is typically not the healthiest.

This is my soapbox...;) Welcome:P

I think that in cases of deformation and physical traits that are extremely abnormal, plastic surgery can help restore some sense of normalcy to people and raise their self-esteem.

All these celebrities I see trying to "turn back the clock of time" need to realize they are GETTING OLD, and AGING is INEVITABLE.
It really is sad to me to look around and see naturally beautiful women mess up their faces and their bodies, just to maintain status in Hollywood.:S

Agreed. And frankly, when I DO see women with smile lines around their lips and eyes, etc. they look MORE beautiful to me than those who obviously look like they've never before smiled, or obviously had something done.

I don't know...I've been called a liar when I've said the above before, but it's true. I really do LOVE the look of a woman (or man) who looks as if he/she has LIVED AND taken care of themselves.

:)

I completely agree with you. For example, there is a woman that works for my SO that has had her breasts done, face lift and had lip injections and it looks SOOOOOO gross. Her lip injections went wrong and there is nothing she can do about it now besides look like a fish. Her husband wanted her to do and now she looks horrible. If someone asked me to do it I would tell them to bleep off. I like the natural look myself but I guess it depends on what floats your boat.:)

:D

I've seen girls who do look beautiful after, too. But, I didn't see anything wrong with the before[:/]

One of my favorite memories is of a college roomate who had A-cups and was having a breast enhancement. I got to fully examine & feel the before & after:o;):P She had a nice job. She didn't go too big, a small C, if you will.

(that was the fun part...now for the downside....)

But, frankly her A's did not look bad to me. She was such a small girl--she had an eating disorder---I think "Good grief! Eat just a little something and you'll have a B and still be thin, silly." But, you can't say that---her case might be more extreme than others, but my point is there is something else that triggers the "need" to have such things done for "better self-esteem"[:/]

Well, the only thing is, I think we are becoming a society that would rather erase away imperfections, rather than accept them.
If no man can accept me as I am, and would rather find a model, he's free to go.:|

I would not want to be with the kind of man who would rather have fake/bigger/smaller/whatever, rather than accept my body the way it is.

On the same subject, different note:

It IS becoming a widespread epidemic. I have worked in sales as my main source of income since college. My previous company (same industry) actually HAD A DISCOUNT PLAN FOR BOTOX!!! It can be important in sales to be "aesthetically pleasing". I use that phrase, b/c my old manager actually described me that way to a customer once:o. But, to have a discount plan for your employees for botox (and other) things of that nature???:S Most of the women LOVED it. I found it nauseating[:/]

My thinking that if a man needs you to be fake to love you then he is not for you. What happens when all the work gets done and he's bored, he moves on to someone else. I'm just glad my man loves me for everything that I am and everything that Im not.

No offense to anyone that has had plastic surgery, this post is not to offend anyone or hurt anyone's feelings for doing so.

Exactly! You'd think that'd be obvious, but unfortunately to some it's not[:/]

The funny thing is...after all that...my hunny prefers when I do EVEN LESS than I do now. He loves me, literally, fresh out of the shower. I'm like "Babe. I HAVE to moisturize!" (and apply mascara---it's my weakness--I will NOT be seen w/out mascara and I wear the waterproof kind often in the summer:o);):P
