shropshire 0 #1 April 27, 2006 Hi... I had a bit of a pissing contest with an American at work today.... usual banter who dug who out of the shit and who kicked who arse.... you know how it goes Anyway he contented that the Americans kicked our royal backside at Valley Forge and I larfed my tits off at him... (guaranteed steam). I told him that the only battle fought at that camp site was with the weather (bad winters in them days)... but he said that it was a battle field. Anyone from PA know the local history? . (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome
ChrisL 2 #2 April 27, 2006 Quote Anyone from PA know the local history? . No battles were ever fought at Valley Forge. General Washington camped the Continental Army there over winter 1777 - 1778.__ My mighty steed

JohnRich 4 #7 April 28, 2006 QuoteNo battles were ever fought at Valley Forge. True, but it was the staging point for the taking of Philadelphia, and the battle at Monmouth, NJ. And we did kick British ass there.
SpeedRacer 1 #8 April 28, 2006 clicky Sounds like a sucky time. They came there with 11,000 troops. Just in that winter, they lost 2,500 of them from starvation, exposure, and disease. More than we've lost in Iraq (with over 130,000 troops) in three years. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
