That completely depends on the parent.

In my case, one parent is entirely on their own. That's the inevitable consequence of a lifetime of decisions.

The other parent has been a good friend to me over the years. That one deserves -- and will receive -- good friendship in return.

Windcatcher, just a note of thanks for this thread. I called my Mom tonight, whose arrangements, wishes and desires were not known.

They're not known now, but she is taking steps to rectify that...and for that help, I thank you for putting the thought into my head that maybe I need to find out.

This is an interesting thread about a very important topic.

I'll take this opportunity to mention that on the 19th of this month, my parents will celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
The ironic thing is, they have been the ones nursing me for the past 2 1/2 years.

In regard to their aging and possible future health issues, if I can give them half the love and support they have given me; I would be truly honored.

As others have mentioned, every situation is different. What kind of care they will need remains to be seen. I am confident though that between myself and my 7 siblings, their best interests will be honored. We have been truly blessed with the precious gift of my parents. I cannot think of 2 finer people...but then, I'm prejudiced.

Nope. If my parents ever get to that point. They will live on their own and I will visit them often or they will be with me. Period.
