VTmotoMike08 0 #1 November 4, 2007 So I arrive at the DZ yesterday and go to get ready and I try to turn on my cypress. (Cypress I, 6 years old, batteries replaced 4 months ago) It won't turn on. It does the 4 red flashes like normal, then instead of counting down it flashes 0 for a brief second then it turns off. I try a few more times, with a minute or so between each attempt, and still nothing. I call my rigger over to take a look and he gets the same results. I find a cypress manual and read through the revelant sections, and it does not mention this problem. It talks of error codes and such but does not mention what to do if it simply flashes 0 then turns off. So I decide to just go ahead and jump it without the cypress turned on for the day, but it went home with my rigger last night. He is going to pop the reserve and pull out the cypess. He said he will check if maybe the wires are loose, or it could be a battery issue, but like I mentioned, the battery was replaced at the 6 year mark last summer. He said maybe if he takes out the battery and puts it back in, it might "reset" itself and start working properly again. Thats about all I got, if he cannot get it working its going back to SSK to be checked out. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who had a similar problem with theirs and what the solution was. I will post the results from my rigger or SSK here when I get it back. ericfradet 0 #2 November 6, 2007 in the past because a bad angle for the wires in between the control unit and the processing unit, was one reason it could happen that the Cypres had problem to turn on, it is a reason why Rigging Innovations did not permit the control unit on the front of the rig. and a reason why the Student Cypres has a longer wire. VTmotoMike08 0 #3 November 6, 2007 Update: It turns out I simply got a defective cypress battery. It was stamped 5/07 and died 11/07. It sure is disappointing to have to buy two cypress batteries in 6 months, plus the associated reserve repacks, this sure has cost me a lot of moneyBut I will be contacting SSK and seeing what they say about the defective battery, I sure hope I can get some money backMy rigger pulled out the old battery, put it back in and still got nothing. He put a new battery in and it worked fine.
irishrigger 32 #4 November 6, 2007 i came across the same problem a couple times.there was a batch of defective batteries from airtec a while back, and i had to send them back.i contacted airtec in germany and they replaced the batteries free of charge.so i would hope that SSK in the US will do the same. rodger
tuffyjensen 0 #5 November 6, 2007 I put a bad battery in a rig the same as you described. My response as the rigger was, I put it in I should fix the problem at no charge to the customer. I then in turn called SSK and they promptly replaced the battery that I had to replace. It doesn't need to be repacked, just opened and re-closed if it is the same rigger. I have had nothing but great experiences dealing with SSK and would expect that to be the same for everyone. Be polite and courteous explain your problem and most manufactures/dealers will work with you.Be Safe and Have Fun, in that order! Tuffy
VTmotoMike08 0 #6 November 6, 2007 Quote It doesn't need to be repacked, just opened and re-closed if it is the same rigger. I called and the original rigger that packed it just moved to Costa RicaI got a PM from an airtec rep that said they will make it rightAlso, my rigger tried my battery in another cypres unit to confirm that it was a battery issue and it did exactly the same thing that it did in my unit. paul87 0 #7 June 15, 2009 I have experienced another problem with my cypress. It turned on like normal, but at the end of the day I couldn't turn it off. It simply didn't react when I pushed the button."flying" is the most reasonable thing I ever done
