Rudderow 2 #1 April 5, 2006 I have to go up to North Haven, CT, for about 2 weeks in May for work. Actually, it doesn't have to be in May. I can pick when I want to go. I just have to go up there to get learned on stuff. But April is looking pretty busy for me, so i'm planning on May. so anyway... Is there anything to do in North Haven? How about dropzones? anybody have any suggestions? thanks! PMS #165 Swooo #613 CSA #
robr 0 #2 April 5, 2006 I dunno about anything to do in North Haven, but it's about an hour away from CPI whose website is www.skydivect.com. Alternately, you're about 2.5 hours away from Jumptown (my home dz) www.jumptown.com or the Ranch http://www.theblueskyranch.com/ I've jumped at CPI and Jumptown and they're both awesome. Haven't jumped at the Ranch but I hear fun things about them too.
pilotdave 0 #3 April 6, 2006 I live ~15 mins from there. New Haven has stuff to do... it's just to the south of north haven (believe it or not Lots of events planned for june at CPI.... wingsuit demos, 60-way CT state record, night jumps, new england CPC swoop competition, etc. Just plain old skydiving scheduled for may I think, which might work better for getting lots of jumps in. I'm in MD for work right now. Wish I could get to a DZ (used to jump at delmarva). Dave

skiskyrock 0 #5 April 6, 2006 For DZ's, I'd recommend the Ranch in Gardiner NY or CPI in Ellington, CT. Ellington is a lot closer than the Ranch. Ct has a LOT of good top-rope rock climbing, mostly near Hartford and in the Nutmeg Alps. Climbnasium used to be a pretty good rock gym, but it has been a few years. The club scene in New Haven is pretty vibrant and Toad's Place is always good for live music. For more local fun, try the restaurants on Wooster street in New Haven. There is a great rail-trail from Chester to North Haven that is good for running, biking, and rollerblading. Just North of North Haven is Sleeping Giant State park... there is a small castle at the topmost point of the park, but if you get away from there you can walk for quite a while without seeing another person. After a day on the trail or in the park, have a Mexican dinner at Aunt Chiladas in Chester.
robr 0 #6 April 7, 2006 I'd just like to chime in here and say that Toad's Place really is awesome.
Rudderow 2 #7 May 3, 2006 I will definitely try to hit Toad's place. I will be up there next week, 5/7 through 5/12. I'm staying in New Haven (work stuff is in North Haven). I plan on checking out CPI since it's the closest. Mapquest says it will take me an hour. I'm hoping traffic around Hartford isn't too bad. I'd like to make a couple jumps before sunset. Thanks for the info!! PMS #165 Swooo #613 CSA #
Andy9o8 2 #8 May 3, 2006 Forget the clubs. Filled with debauchery. You don't want that. And you can always skydive when you're at home. Yale University is in the heart of New Haven. They have some excellent libraries. Go read. Now that's some serious entertainment.
