What's Your Favorite Food Made by Mom?

Recommended Posts

My Mom was a terrible cook. There were things that she made when I was growing up that I didn't think I liked until I tasted how someone else made them. She could make some mean steak, rice and gravy though.

My mother-in-law made some wicked squirrel with biscuits and gravy. My ex would go hunting the night before and she would prepare it for breakfast the next morning.

My grandmother's buttermilk biscuits were legendary. I've never seen anyone else make them in a shallow wooden bowl using their hands to mix the ingredients.

I've tried to master all of these dishes to no avail. You just can't compete with your Mom's specialty.

3 things immediately come to mind. Cheesecake, Birthday cakes, and Chili. She usually does well with most things. Except this crazy "Waldorf Salad." It's lettuce, grapes, apples, and maybe some other fruit all mixed togather with disgusting Miracle Whip. BLEEEHHHHH!!!!!!!! Oh and she likes to put grapes in the Thanksgiving stuffing. NO IDEA why. Completely ruins it. :S

My mother makes excellent chicken and dumplings, gravy and biscuits and homemade cinnamon sticky buns, and cardamon rolls. And blueberry pancakes with blueberries from our yard.:)
She cooks well, though heavy, in a PA Dutch Amish fashion. One thing I hate though is she doesn't drink or offer it ever with a meal, she would never allow wine with a meal or see it's value. And she way mushy overcooks all vegetables. B|

I love Waldorf Salad!

I can't say there's a memorable dish that my mom makes. Holiday dinners are pretty good, other than that my dad does the cooking now.

My mom has actually become a more creative and interesting cook in retirement and has more time/energy to spend on it - while I was growing up she was more of a "back of the box gourmet." So some of the things I have really fond memories of are the comfort foods. She makes a mean beef stew, and my other favorite is this recipe she got from my grandmother (my dad's mom) that Granny called Slumgullion. It's basically mac and cheese on steroids - with macaroni, American cheese and milk, breakfast sausage, onions, and green peppers. Mmmmmmm... processed carby goodness.

My Oma's speciality was cottage cheese and hardboiled eggs:D

Apparently, your Mom didn't learn from your Oma. Hardboiled eggs take some skill. Although opening a can could be dangerous. All those jagged edges and all.

I'm skilled at sauces.

<---is a BIG dipper:P

I've come up with my own very creative mixes to dip things in over the years.

Chik Fil-A is my favorite place to create----3 parts mayonaise, 3 parts mustard, 3 parts ketchup and 1 part buffalo sauce. Mix with hard waffle fry. Wall-A:P
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Oh, I made a great sauce too. Arby's sauce with an equal amount of Horsey Sauce. :P

I haven't eaten at Arby's since my hunny filled me in on what an old high-school friend of his told him when they were in school and his friend worked there. It had to do with exactly "how" the roast beef was made so thin.

I will spare you and allow you the satisfaction of enjoying your future Arby's sammiches:P

I will stick to the Jamocha shake, please:P LARGE. Man, I love those things;) We don't have an Arby's here, though[:/] I don't eat much fast food anyways, except for the occasional run for the border;)
