DougH 270 #1 November 1, 2007 I have an old jump suit that was passed down from my ground school coach. It was his jumpsuit when he was new in the sport, it sat on the student rack for a while, and then he gifted it to me when I was just getting started in the sport. The jump suit is older, with small grippers and no booties. It is double layer so it is awesome in the winter. I think it might be an older tony suit, but who knows since it has no labels or brand embroidery. My biggest priority is finding the right material to patch the ass with. The first layer of fabric in the ass is all torn up from when it was still on the student rack. I want to put a cordura patch on there but I wasn't sure what was the common weight. Paragear had 1000 and 500 weight, but their color selection sucked. Is there any one that has a better selection out there besides a local fabric shop? The jump suit might have been red at one time, now it is a brick or mauroon color lol. The other thing I have been thinking about is coming up with some system to make removable booties, but I am not set on the idea. I thought with a ring of velcro around the shin area, and two fastex clips on either side of the shin might alow to you make removable booties. The velcro could keep the connection tight, and the clips would take the tension when you were putting the booties to work. I have been using the suit for bigger formations because it has a great fall rate for them, my four way suit is too fast, but I would like some more drive that I get with my bootie suit. But a lot of time I use the suit to freefly so I don't want them to be on all the time. DougH 270 #2 November 1, 2007 Crap wrong forum. If some one could move this for me that would be great, thanks! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Black goes with everything, but you could try contacting a container or jumpsuit manufacturer to buy a small amount of a different color. QuoteThe other thing I have been thinking about is coming up with some system to make removable booties Shirley Pelland (Pineapple Express) out of Perris builds a nice removable bootie. Unfortunately I don't have contact info for her. From the year I spent cutting jumpsuits, I can say that booties are pretty complicated to cut and build - not something I'd attempt if you aren't already skilled at patternmaking/cutting/sewing, or at the least very, very patient and willing to engineer and build over and over until you get them right. rehmwa 2 #4 November 1, 2007 QuoteI thought with a ring of velcro around the shin area, and two fastex clips on either side of the shin might alow to you make removable booties 1 - time to buy a new suit: thin grippers, no booties, likely no inside grippers... just as well go to Fleet Farm and buy a coverall. 2 - Removable booties aren't a great idea (IMO), once you have booties you don't really want to be without them. But, if you want to try, I'd ensure the connection is above the knee so that the bend in the knee takes the strain rather than the connection joint. Also, putting the connection below the knee will not result in a booties worth anything, but it might keep your shoelaces cleaner as the only real value added. Then you have issues with the grippers too. 3 - If you want to freefly, get a freefly suit. In the long run, having the right tools for each discipline is better. I guess that applies to the 'short run' too. ... Over the years, I've seen some various "removable bootie" ideas tried out... Velcro on ones like you describe & "chaps" w/ booties that you put on over your bootie-less jumpsuit are two ideas I've seen come to mind, but for the most part, like folks have said, if you want booties, you wind up buying a jumpsuit with them and if you don't want them sometimes, you wind up with another jumpsuit without them. So, other then it ending up being an interesting sewing project... which I'm not saying is a bad thing... it usually just winds up being only that. DougH 270 #6 November 1, 2007 I agree 100% but it isn't in the budget right now. I would rather try to get 50 jumps in at Eloy this holiday boogie with the old suit, than sit at home with the new suit. The being said the suit was causing problems in dives I would be shopping for the suit right now. It has inside grippers, good fall rate... I just wish I had the drive of booties I get from my other suit."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Not all big way jumpers have booties and some without them track pretty good."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
DougH 270 #8 November 1, 2007 I like to think I track pretty darn well, better than a lot of the other people who are on the dives. I know this because I can watch them fall away when looking back between my legs. I had a excellent teacher when i was first starting who tracks like a glider! I don't mean drive while tracking, just general drive when turning points or changing slots."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
wildfan75 1 #9 November 1, 2007 Why not compromise with yourself? At $20 a jump (just guessing on the how much the boogie jumps are), why not do just 35 jumps at the boogie and get yourself a new suit (estimating $300 for a new suit). Best of both worlds. Do a lot of 4 way jumpers use booties? DougH 270 #11 November 1, 2007 Quote Yeah, it always amuses me to see so many people sink while tracking after breakoff... Bomb head down like a home sick cruise missle is more the way I would describe it. It seems that most 4 way guys now use fast suits and booties, but I am far from an expert on the subject."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
