Nothing says this is restricted to state residents (nor, for that matter, is public opinion the only criteria they're using). Vote for the design of the new Washington State Quarter.

For the record, I like #2. #3 is kind of freaky.

Meh, I wish design #2 had an apple in it. It's prettier by far, but this is WASHINGTON. We are famous for our apples more than our fishies, though both are tasty.

Oh, and I LOVE salmon--wild caught. Which is annoyingly hard to find. But, when it's in season, sockeye is THE BEST! Oh my gosh! Love it!

Don't get me wrong. I love that Starbucks exists. It makes it very easy to find good coffee in an airport other than Sea-Tac. It makes it easy to find good coffee in other towns, especially when I don't have time to ask around and find out which of the local shops make a good cup.

But here at home... I rarely, if ever, go to Starbucks (well, except for the one in the North Terminal at Sea-Tac because it's the last refuge before the airplane doors shut). I love that there's a Starbucks (sometimes two!) on every corner in this town, and yet every time I turn around ANOTHER local shop opens up and does really well.

Sockeye is not nearly as freshly caught Silver( Coho) of Chinook( King) Salmon... you SOOOO neeed to come visit and go fishing for REAL salmon.. Sockeye.. is really only fit for canning.

But here in Florida---Coho is GROSS (and I LOVE salmon, so I would know) and Sockeye is choice. All the fresh markets carry Sockeye when it's in season---it tastes like it naturally has butter in it. I eat sockeye sushi frequently

And, I really do hate to jump on the Olsen-twin Starbucks phenom, but it just doesn't taste any better than Starbucks---I get excited when I'm somewhere unfamiliar, but there in the distance is the green circle and I can't quite read what it says yet, but I already know---it's my place, my familiar face, my delicious indulgence. Funny, it was actually my hunny that got my hooked on it. He used to be more of a jiffy-store coffee kind of guy, now we're both regulars at our nearby store.

That still looks like a trout leaping.. I guess it COULD be a Steelhead... but the native culture holds the Chinook in far higher esteem... a REALLLY BIG steelhead is STILL only half the size of a normal Chinook.

What really sucks is this,,,I grew up in the valley, Yakima Valley that is. And I have fished a lot out of Grays harbor as well, worked a fishing boat in the summer over there for Bran Lee Charters. The bad thing is, more money in apples. So the Gov. of WA must have never really traveled the state much to see the entire wonderfulness of the entire State. Sorta like well I live on western side of the State, so the valley can kiss my ass. Oh well....I for one would like to see the #'s that the vote really was. Then I wouldn't be so damm upset, but I for one like the silver and king too...Big Fish ON!!
