wingnut 0 #1 May 5, 2006 okay so i was watching a movie and wondering.. is life in the u.s.a. better now or was it beter in lets say the 50's? i mean in the 50's you had segragation, and women's rights were next to nothing, but what about now.. racism is still alive, there are school shootings (and murders in the hundres or thousands every year) and we happen to be currently at "war"... so what do ya think? no political discusions, no arguing your point, just say what you want and move along... i don't want this to go to speakers corner, i don't like that place it scares me.... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
AggieDave 6 #2 May 5, 2006 The US is better now, but the 50's are seen as a golden age. An age of innocence before it was "lost" in the '60s and "lost" with the Vietnam War.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." airtwardo 7 #3 May 5, 2006 We were a different country then, in a different world. As a country, we had just kicked some major ass in a real WORLD WAR against two powerful enemies on opposite sides of the planet... The nation was drawn together with a common goal and afterwards there was a feeling of pride and hope. With the mass transit and communication, these days the world seems smaller, our 'enemies' closer... There is more stress, more pressure...we're all more cynical it seems. Is it 'better'....who's to say...it different for sure. ...now most of us have TURBINES to jump from! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
