Would you participate in an All-Around Skydive event?

Recommended Posts

I made a smart remark the other day and Skymama said it sounded like a good idea. So here's my question.

I'm curious how many people would participate as well as how many other people would donate their skills to make a team to help the all-around competitor.

For instance, a meet with say FS, Freefly, CRW, Swoop, etc.

A competitor signs up for all events and said skydiver gets scored on their performance through all the events and ranked against others doing the same.

I used to rodeo when I was little and in rodeo a cowboy who roped, rode bulls, rode broncs and so on could enter in the "all-around".

At the end of the rodeo the solo person with the most points won "All-around cowboy".

Does that help?

Wow, that's all it takes for you to start thinking about how to implement something? OK...I also think it's a good idea for you to move to FL and become my Sugar Daddy. Let me know when you're coming. ;)

All kidding aside, I still think it sounds like a really cool idea. Maybe you would have been better off posting this question in one of the serious forums. I think more of the people who would be interested read those forums more than Bonfire.

Gravitygirl: I thought of that and in the CRW events, if you didn't have one arrangements could be made.

Skymama: I would post this in other forums but I remember a while back some greenie;) gave me a spanking for cross posting(is that what its called).

PLFXpert: No offense but you have obviously not been in the sport long enough or been around enough. This event pulls from a skydivers ego as well as their skill. I personally know many skydivers that have the multiple skills. At nationals I watch a couple of them compete in more than one discipline and that is where I kinda started thinking about this. Thank you for your comment though, it makes me think.:)

I could always delete this one if you started a new one somewhere else. I've found that people who read Bonfire read most of the other forums but people who read the serious forums don't always read Bonfire.

No offense

None taken. Simply stating my thoughts. I do have a knack for predicting what will be popular, and what will not, but am no skydiving expert, just a PLF:P

However, it is wise not to make assumptions...

Good point. We need more skydivers with big egos! Especially the kind with the skygod mentality that makes them feel really good when they say stuff like:

you have obviously not been in the sport long enough or been around enough.

For what it's worth, I've been in the sport 28 years. I much prefer her attitude to yours.

I think it would be a fun to have an event like that but it might be dangerous. Imagine a belly flyer trying to compete in a FF/Headown event and they have never even been in a sit.

I haven't done any CRW and I won't want to try and learn it at an event like that. JMHO

Craig G. is obviously a badass belly flier but lots of people don't know that he is a great freeflier too and he placed second at the ranch pond swoop nationals a few years back.;) Andy H. (also from airspeed) is also an accomplished freeflier and one hell of a swooper. Steve Curtis, well he's just a freak of nature. :D I think that there would be more participation if it was a "fun" meet at a boogie or something.

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

Are any of them also fabulous at CRW?

That was my point. Most swoopers, upon my observation, are also really great at some other disciipline. But an all-around?

Perhaps. But just wouldn't be popular, in my opinion, and would thus die off.[:/]

Of course there would have to be some standards set in place and common sense among the participants before this could happen. There are plenty of guys that I know of that could pull this off. The only event that might have to be thrown out is CRW just because of the canopy requirement.
