jumpergirl 0 #1 May 6, 2006 We are trying to find our honeymoon destination and would like some input from people who have been to the places we are interested in. We want to go to the beach, somewhere warm, and are looking towards somewhere in the Caribbean or maybe Hawaii. I found a package in Oahu for $1800 total, including air, hotel, and rental car for 5 nights/6 days. I also found a package on Grand Bahama for $1480 for hotel, rental car, and a resort scuba class for 5 days/6 nights. Are either of those decent? I haven't planned or booked a vacation before (aside from the occasional flight to see family) so I could use a little guidance from those "in the know." Any suggestions?? Thanks so much! I wonder if it's just more "inexpensive" or if it truly is "cheaper." I had a great system to save money for the wedding and honeymoon. I had saved a whole $250 in just a few weeks. Then, I made the mistake of taking it with me when we left for this year's tour... all but $100 of it is gone. I'm so disappointed. It's not so easy to replace it now that we're on the road. But it was an all inclusive resort, so there weren't any extras for food or drinks the whole time we were there. If you feel like checking it out, we stayed at Breezes Runaway Bay. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. I'm not really one for beach holidays.. but this was soooo relaxing. The people were loverly, food out of this world and the Rum was good too... we plan to go back when we reach a milestone anniversary. (.)Y(.) It's definitely helping us add to and remove from the list. We are leaning towards Honolulu/Waikiki. Anyone have any input on that?
 Nightingale 0 #12 May 7, 2006 If you want to go to hawaii, I'd strongly suggest Kona rather than Honolulu/Waikiki. Kona is a small town on the big island, about two hours from Hilo (big city like honolulu) and about two hours from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I've been to Oahu, Kaui, Maui, Lanai, and Hawai'i, and the big island (Hawai'i) is by far my favorite. There's so much more to do there, and Kona is the most wonderful laid back little town. Everything you need is pretty much within walking distance, the King Kamehameha hotel puts on an awesome luau, and there's the coolest kava bar in the middle of town. You don't have to put up with the god-awful traffic in honolulu (Hilo's bad, but not nearly as bad as honolulu/waikiki) and the people are so incredibly friendly. I spent a week and a half there, and I could've stayed another month and still not run out of things to do. There's even a tour that will take you snorkeling/scuba at night to swim with manta rays. I've travelled hawaii pretty extensively, and if you're going to go there, go to Kona. It might not be an all inclusive type place, but neither is Hawaii, and it's a lot more exotic. The beaches are awesome! The air fare would be a little more to get there, but it is a LOT more affordable.
