Andy_Copland 0 #1 May 9, 2006 OK so i got a job on my own merit working in a hospital boiler and incinerator room, my job is Incinerator Belt Loader. Yea its a dead end boring loading of a belt to burn shit. Now i keep going into work and there are notes left for me by one of the boss's like "clean boiler tubes" and "Unblock ashram on number 2" etc etc. These jobs are boilerman and tech jobs which im not trained for but have shown capable of doing. The problem is i have expressed my voice in becoming a fully qualified boilerman and its getting shrugged off. The reason? My old man is one of 3 conducting the interviews for boilerman and i get the feeling that he doesnt want to look like he's doing favours for his son I've told him all i want is a fair chance but it looks like hes being an arse and im having an uphill struggle, so on my last shift the whole plant was shut down and i was asked to clean the boiler tubes (i have to borrow specialist gear for this.) I sat on my arse all night and just refused and done my own job. All the other techs are on my side and think i should have a fair shot and see it aswell. Any ideas on what i should say to my old man or do? 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue. 2fat2fly 0 #2 May 9, 2006 The whole dad thing makes it a tough shot, but I spent my first shift here mopping the floors. I did whatever asked that I was able to and have gone from getting home covered in oil and coolant to khaki's, golf shirt and company car. If I had "just done my job" I would either still be dead ending or unemployed. I suggest that you shine so brightly that you force yourself into consideration for promotions.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
Andy_Copland 0 #3 May 9, 2006 Its the safety aspect though, i have never done these jobs and am learning as i go along. My old chap has been left a note by another tech that basically said if your going to get him to do these jobs at least provide the proper equipment for him. I mean to put into perspective. So far i've had a face full of fly ash that is really not a good idea, suffered a slight (but very fucking painful) burn to my hand and had a very painful moment off hopping around the place thinking i'd really done my ankle some damage Dont ever work with family Pictures - Thats the kind of environment, i love learning new skills and really love doing all this shit. But i wanna at least be doing it properly with a qualification 1338 People aint made of nothin' but water and shit. Until morale improves, the beatings will continue.
