How have you gotten out of a traffic ticket?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...
Ok, I'm on my way home from work today. I get pulled over. The first time ever. He says " license and registration please" yea, ok but what did I do?
You were driving in 3 lanes. HUH?? Ok, so what I did was go from the left to the right without stopping in each lane. Why not..I was going to miss my onramp. So I did something that is so not me. I started giggling, put my finger in my mouth and said " I did that??" "I'm so sorry officer."
He rolled his eyes and gave me a warning :D:D:D

Honesty's good, too. I find if you don't even *try* to bullshit them, they can sometimes be more sympathetic.

I got pulled over for doing 70 in a 50 zone... told the officer I had just picked up a check from a customer for new cabinets and was trying to get back to the office before it closed... then told him we have a special rate for police officers if he ever wanted to replace his cabinets... He took my card and gave me a warning... :)

I've gotten out of a speeding ticket before by doing a rolling stop so that I just barely passed over the county line. It was a city cop so there was nothing they could do in the other county. Gotta love jurisdiction lines.:D

Nice move

Yeah that warning is awesome... he asked how fast I was going and I told him... :D
That's the only the second time I was pulled over, the other time was by a small town cop... he made sure I got a ticket, think he was trying to impress his boss... :S

I don't know that I've ever gotten out of a traffic ticket... but there was this one time my dad and I managed to get two warnings for going 68 and 72 in a 55 mph zone respectively... :)

but we had a get out of jail free card with us at the time... :$:)

That doesn't matter in Texas, just so you know. Check the TX CCP if you really care to understand why and how, but county lines and municipal lines don't really mean too much for jurisdiction overall. Infact, playing "games" usually just really annoys the officer.

I don't. The last ticket was really annoying. I got it for not using my turn signal...which I really did use (no matter how bad of a driver I am...I always use my turn signals.) There was a problem with my car, though, so the lights didn't actually flash when I used my signal. I could've contested it, but, since I didn't have vacation time accrued yet, it would've cost me more to take off work than to pay the ticket.

I also got towed when they passed a law but didn't post any signs. Once again, I could've gone to court, but it would've cost more to take off work.

I hate driving. I love the train.

HA!

The way I look at it is that the officer is doing what he or she was hired and trained to do, keep the roadway safe (in regards to working traffic). Not only that, but that officer will (typically, usually) treat you with respect and call you by your formal name, using sir/mam. I don't know how anyone else was raised, but that's how I was brought up to deal with people that I don't know and especially people that are authority types. Just a little common sense and some manners go a LONG way when dealing with someone who's job puts that person in situations dealing with a lot of people who aren't nice at all. Not that having manners will get you out of a ticket, just that its a nice thing to do and its refreshing when talking with someone if they're nice.

I haven't been pulled over in years, but in my days of youthful indiscretion, I got pulled over maybe a dozen times for speeding. Never ridiculous speeds, usually 20-25 over the speed limit on a highway. By being polite, honest, and courteous, I have a VERY good track record of not actually getting ticketed. I've gotten out of it 8 or 9 times and only been ticketed 4 times. Cause/effect? Who knows, but I figure there's no point in being a bitch.

I've used that too and it's gotten me out of one ticket, but didn't help with the ass that wanted to give me a ticket for anything he could think of. :|

I almost managed to get arrest when I was 18 because of speeding... it was on a road that was deserted, at like 3 am, he only had the red light on the top but it wasnt one of the long ones. So I slowed to the speed limit and drove another 8 miles or so to the gas station. When he pulled up beside me he started almsot yelling at me asking why I hadnt pulled over. I stated I didnt know if he was a real cop since his car did not tell me that he was and I wanted to be in public just incase. He then started going on about how I was evading blah blah blah, and I told him bullshit, because I saw on 20/20 about guys who use lights just like his to pull women over and rape them and then I asked to see the radar as well as asking him when his gun was last calibrated, he wasnt to happy but he did oblige on the gun (I cant remember if he told me the calibration or whatever since it was a long time ago) and if he wants to give me a ticket to please hurry up because I was tired and still had a long ways to go. needless to say, I got a ticket all right, one for speeding, one for reckless driving, one for seatbelt violation WHICH i had taken off when I pulled into the gas station.

My father choose for me to fight it, and we won, well everything but the speeding. Which I freely admitted to doing, so the judge made it a lower fine and no points.

Now that being said I manage to get at least a ticket every 6 months or so and I am pulled over more often. I never make excuses anymore unless having a lead foot is an excuse, I apologize (ever since the time I said I was speeding because I was sick and had to get to the bathroom, I got a police escort and he waited outside while I ran in... I came back to a written warning)
Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this
