Would you risk it?

Recommended Posts

OK hypothetical question :)

Say you lived in a country where you were getting pretty frustrated at the weather and on your day off work you have to be at friends house who lives pretty damn close to the DZ (10 miles) but in his shitty village he has no public transport. He himself is banned from driving (totally differant story) but said i can take his van as long as i say i took the keys from his place if i get caught.

Would you risk the 10mile drive through country road? Hypothetically of course...

Edit to Add: I can drive, just not in the eyes of the law...

I dont know the laws there (or here half the time) but im sure its not that bad a crime in the sense of sentancing powers, especially if you've never been convicted of a similar offence.

Im doing the whole risk to pleasure ratio thing. Remember its hypothetical anyway people!

Sorry. I don't get it.
Your friend is banned from driving. Fine: this means that he has got his driving licence retired. A driving licence retired to the owner of a vehicle does NOT mean that same vehicle cannot be driven by anybody who has got the proper driving licence to drive said vehicle (provided same vehicle has got: a proper and in force "circulation certificate", a proper and in force insurance, "whatever-else-document-needed-by-a-vehicle-to-be-legally-driven-around").
So, where is the breaking of the law, provided that you have got a proper driving licence? I cannot understand...

Jail time vs. freedom?

Doh.. don't be stupid, buy a bicycle or something cheap and peddle. Yes the van is faster, can also put you in lockup faster too.

Not sure about the UK, but in the states stealing a car is a felony with up too 2 years in jail first offence.

Now you can weigh your situation better then I. Since you live in a much smaller population area I'm sure the police force has a smaller ratio of officers to citizen. So your chances of getting stopped are much higher then say, living here in Houston with a population of 4 million people.

Me personally.. I'd not risk it.

Ah ah ah B| B| B|
I see :)Well, I do not know what is the law in UK about been caught driving a vehicle WITHOUT a driving licence (please, inform yourself CAREFULLY), I can tell you that if are caught driving a vehicle without driving licence here in my country (Italy) they (military police/road police/local police) will happily fuck you up your ass (probably no jail time but you would end up seriously involved in court).
Just be careful :)
P.S.: What about getting a driving licence?!?!?!?!? :D

Why not get someone from the DZ to pick you up or get a taxi. Offer the person that picks you up (and hopefully returns you) some sort of compensation for time and fuel.

If it is a small village and the local cops know everyone they are going to know that your friend is banned and want to know why his van is on the road.

If they pull you over and you have no documents then it's going to be a costly lesson learnt.

Have you gone totally insane?! That would cost much needed money! Seriously though getting sorted for driving is my next task.

As for getting picked up, the DZO has offered as he comes right past my place. But i need to be at a friends house, also i hate asking favours for some strange reason.

And finally as for country cops, theres no such thing. They have to be drafted in from local towns in most of these areas

I think that the main question that I would be asking myself is, "What is the condition of that vehicle?"

Normally a person is okay on the road so long as he only breaks one law. Let's say you are driving without a license. If you are driving well, wearing a seatbelt, within the speed limit, and the vehicle is well-maintained - with no busted taillights or anything.

You'll be fine because nobody out there knows that you've broken the law against driving without a license. The only way you'll get pinched is if you are visibly violating another law.

Licensed drivers who get pulled over are okay. Because they are usually violating only one type of law - moving violation or expired tags, etc. But if you're not licensed, or if you are smuggling some stuff, make sure your vehicle is great and your driving is better.

On the other hand, I would never, ever advise someone to break the law. You're call.

I do not know how the law is in UK about getting a driving licence.
In my country you have got 2 ways of getting a driving licence: attending a drive school or "privately".
Attending a driving school means that you pay for the classes, for the drives and for everything else and finally you go and do the driving licence exam, and, yes, can be expensive.
If you go privately means that you pay a little money for "doing the documents", among which there is a "temporary driving licence", with which you are allowd to drive only if there is a licenced person on the passenger seat (you got few restrictions, though, you are not allowed to drive in highways and similar stuff). When you think you are quite trained to drive the car and have well studied the theory, you register for the exam and pay little money (again, just for the papers) and you go to do the driving licence exam.
Privately getting the driving licence can be very cheap, but at the same tiome it would consume a LOT of time of your Dad taking you around ;) But I do not know if this "private" driving licence system does exist in UK.

What the fuck are you upt Andy> I've seen heroin addicts taking less extreme measures to get their next fix. You crack me up :D

Just remember if you get thought you will hav ebook thrown at you! Theft of motor vehicle/taking vehicle without owners consent (TWOC), no insurase, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence (ie you don't have one) to name a few.

But you'd probably just get a ban if you did get caught! :)
