Maybe I'm dating myself, but it seems that high school teachers weren't operating a quite this level of petty, immature, bitch-ass pussy-ragness when I was a mildy irreverent teen.

obviously the kid knew what she was doing and she did it on purpose to piss the teacher off or she did it as a threat because she didnt like the teacher. She should have been barred from all schools until she went to counseling and admitted she understood what she did was wrong, the parents should also be sent with her to the counseling. Dont fall into the "she's just a kid" mentality, that girl knew exactly what she was doing and she did it on purpose and that is the reason she got suspended.
It doesnt matter that the kid would never do it, it was said as a threat.

Im sure in your day teachers didnt actually have to worry about the actual real threat of a student going crazy and blowing people away, like what happens every so often nowadays

I agree with everything you said. Joke....No joke the student said what she said. It could lead up to criminal charges of making a terroristic threat.

Where does it stop? Where does it end? No one knows, but it's got to stop. Teachers should not have to endure this type of rhetoric and harrassement while they are performing their duties educating our youth.

I'd've thought that being sent to the principal's office would be appropriate. I'll just bet that the student was innocently humming that just when they were having a disagreement with a teacher that they didn't like.

Being suspended sounds like too much, but I wasn't there. Of course, when you're in school, the school rules should be the ones that count. If your rules are stricter, then fine, but if the school's rules are stricter those are the ones that you follow.

Even if it means you get sent home for wearing a long skirt (as happened for me in the 10th grade ).

I can understand both sides of this story. Considering all of the school shootings it's not really a brilliant idea to sing a song with those particular lyrics.

On the other hand, I used to sing that song when I was a kid. I also would push the envelope with almost anything that I could just to test the boundaries. I was a smartass and I liked to torture my teachers just for shits and giggles. Nothing malicious, just pain in the ass type stuff.

I really think the school went too far when they suspended her.

I really think that detention could have been a better option . . .

I went to a school that would make the parents responsible - they had to sign the student in and out of detention - and conference with the(whomever gave the detention) about why the student recieved it. It cut WAY DOWN on people getting caught.
