I didn't see that anywhere...what I did see was your recommendation to pack up their stuff for them and let them know later. If that really is your stance, i.e., wrong to mess with someone's gear, then we do see eye to eye on that. Now it becomes evident the people involved, including the victim, were all known to you. Let's ALL take a cue from Spence and not mess with anyone's gear at all. I'm out of it.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. avalonwings 0 #27 May 9, 2006 I think that gossip that isnt all true should not be posted on dz....some of the people that were there r embelishing the truth and everyone else that has put in there 2 cents in doest know the whole or real story.i was there... if you want details!! the more and more i read the bonfire i feel like i am in high school again. i have left my stuff out unpacked and the next mornin i was spendin 30 min takin out the line twists i have left my camera out and looked at the video months later only to find a bunch of boobs and butts same thing with my log book when i say i left it out dont mean in the hanger it means not even put up in a corner,in a case, bag, or locker. i learned my lesson after a few and was tought it by the perps and victims involved.... hell i have pics of it somewhere. i also think if you have a problem dont sit back and watch... that makes you just as a fault... if not more... cause u are the one that thinks it is wrong and you still let it happen. maybe even talk to the people that"wronged" before u post things on dropzone. for the record the people involed did say they were sorry and said it was out of love. this is a sport where we are supposed to show love not get on dz and play gossip politics.what ever happened to talkin to someone to work out a problem. .."laid back - with my mind on my **** and my......" CSpenceFLY 1 #29 May 9, 2006 First off what part of what I posted is not true. Second I posted no names or where I was. Third I was not in a frame of mind to confront a group like that nor should I have to. Forth your post just reinforced everything I posted to begin with. I know I've made people mad and maybe lost some friends. If that is the case than maybe we must ask who really caused this. Edit to add:If everyone there thinks this is ok no one should care if it is posted here. Another edit:What possible reason would I have for spreading this "gossip"?? . CSpenceFLY 1 #35 May 9, 2006 1.Go back and reread my post.I said nothing about anyone packing a rig with no rubber bands.Someone was being responsable and replaced the rubber bands and packed the rig.As for putting a few line twist in someones lines I may have been ok with that if it stopped there, but it didn't.At what point would be too far for you? 2.Glad you found it. 3.I should not be put in a position of needing to talk to anyone about something like this.I know most of them don't come here.I was not posting this to "teach anyone a lesson".I post this so I could vent and decuss it with like minded people. 4.I stand by what I have done.Does everyone else? 5.I don't think now is the time for me to be looking to see if I'm on the silly side. 6.I think there was a misunderstanding about one point (the d-bag)and I left a few things out. Tara I am very angry about being put in a position of needing to either confront a group of friends about something like this or vent to another group of friends. . Brian3576 0 #36 May 9, 2006 you appear to be having a go at somebody who saw some behaviour that seriously concerned him ? why are you doing that? from what i can see he didn't bad mouth anybody, he kept it all very discreet and impersonal, its YOU who has come on here and said who it was why should he have to be put in a situation of confronting people, he didn't go and look for this hassle, why are you having a go at him for wanting to keep out of it? finally..... i'm a low jump number person, i've just managed to save up and buy my own equipment, it's beyond me why anybody would leave such precious equipment lying around if anybody touches my rig i'd be angry enough to smack them in the kisser. I won't touch yours, nobody touches mine

KDiddy 0 #40 May 12, 2006 First of all, Spence, thank you for your original post. My gear was one of the rigs that was tampered with. I walked into the hangar on Sunday morning to find my rig tangled and stuffed inside a garbage bag, tape wrapped around the outside of the bag from bottom to top. I was disgusted and appalled to find my gear like this, and was having a hard time trying to figure out how to deal with the situation, considering that my friends had done this. Your post affirmed how I felt about the situation: disrespected, disappointed, and, as you were, disheartened. Being a new-ish jumper, I had been under the impression that messing with someone else's gear is a huge no-no. Sure, I've seen people put a few line twists in a canopy laying out, but the condition that my gear was in was truly disgusting. My gear was tangled in pretty much every possible way it could be, and the most appalling thing to me was that there was chewed up food inside my canopy. I've spoken to several experienced jumpers about this situation, and from their opinion, and that of others who have posted on this thread, I know I'm not alone in thinking that messing with someone else's gear is not acceptable. I also know that there are people who belive that it is OK to tamper with someone's gear, including two of the people I've spoken to who were directly involved. That being said, I'm pretty sure that the chances of us all seeing eye to eye on the issue are slim. What I do ask of the peolpe involved is this: Please, do not mess with my gear, ever again. I know that you weren't trying to attack me or make me feel disrespected: in your eyes, it was a joke, but in my eyes, it went way too far. I do feel disrespected, disregarded, and highly offended. Please respect me, as a friend, by never, ever again doing that or anything like it to my personal property. I understand that there is an inherent risk in leaving my gear out overnight: someone could spill beer on it, or someone could trip over it. Something could happen by accident. I accept this risk and I'm prepared to accept the consequences. What I don't understand, though, is this logic: someone has left their gear out, so let's ensure that it is tampered with in some way. I find it hard to accept that. I can't. To those who have apologized to me, I thank you and deeply appreciate it. I love my home DZ and the people there. I love jumping and partying with you guys, I love that we all do learn from each other. Without you guys, that place would mean so much less to me. I want to continue to feel comfortable, at ease, and at home there. If I don't put my gear up at the end of the day, please don't mess with it when it is entrusted to everyone's safe-keeping overnight in the packing area. skymama 37 #41 May 12, 2006 What did the dzo say about this? Has he, or is he going to address the issue? To me, it's just dangerous and stupid and shouldn't be written off as a joke that went too far. Ha ha, very funny. I guess it's only funny as long as it's not your shit that gets messed with. The fact that it was put in a gargage bag and taped up is even worse. What if someone had thrown it away the next day? Who would be held responsible for that? What ever happened to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
CSpenceFLY 1 #42 May 12, 2006 I would like to add one thing. To the ones who think this is ok.Maybe you don't care what others think about your DZ but take a minute to think about the people that were there visiting.I guess you could blame me for letting the cat out of the bag.How many loads would have gone if those people were not there?Or do you care about that either? You have a great place.A place that the DZO leaves open after hours so you have somewhere to hang out. It's not like that everwhere. There are DZs that lock the hanger when business is done.If I had to put up with crap like this all the time and than pay someone to cleanup after you I would lock the hanger also. . jumpwally 0 #43 May 12, 2006 With all due respect,,it would have taken far less time to put your gear away than it did to type up your post !!! What happened to taking responsibility for your self and your stuff? Its not just your gear ! its a life saving device!!!! how goofy can anyone be? Like Skymama said, its most likely the most expensive thing you own.......if this happened to me I would be pissed off too, ,,,but I would be so friggin embarrassed and angry at my self that i wouldn't dare post about it. Spence,,good post ,hope its an eye opener for folks..smile, be nice, enjoy life FB # - 1083
CSpenceFLY 1 #44 May 12, 2006 I agree it would only take a minute to put your gear somewhere. But I don't think that should be the point taken from all of this. When I started jumping 8 years ago most people left their gear in the hanger over night.I would like to know when this new rule was formed and why there are no warning signs in the hanger.I hear one of the victims was a first time visitor to the DZ.How was he to know? . KDiddy 0 #45 May 12, 2006 I've been to world-class dropzones where I've seen hundreds of rigs out overnight, with no one worrying about their gear being messed with. I've seen gear left out overnight at virtually every drop zone I've been to. I've seen gear left overnight at my DZ. I've left my gear out overnight at my DZ and nothing has happened to it. I'm tired of being attacked for my judgement on something that is a common practive everywhere I've been. Much more experienced jumpers who have been around agree with me on this. I KNOW we can't all see eye to eye on this. It's been clearly deomonstrated in this thread. I've already said that I am prepared to accept an accident, or even my gear being stolen. Then I know it is my own fault. I've said that I accept that responsibility. I don't accept blatant acts of disrespect. I'm not embarassed for myself, but for the people involved who did this to my belongings. Skymama: Someone who is responsible for cleaning up the hangar in the mornings almost DID throw away my gear. I'm not sure that our DZO is even aware of what happened. He wasn't there that night, or the next day.
jumpwally 0 #46 May 12, 2006 I agree with what you are saying wholeheartedly,,i am just one that will not leave my gear laying around, its just me,its a life saving device,it shouldnt be laying around,to me it makes no sense. Others are welcome to what ever habits they care to develop. I think if you leave stuff laying around you should not whine if someone dicks withit,,christ look at the stolen gear list ! There are a lot of nutbags out there and its best to avoid them, sorry my .02smile, be nice, enjoy life FB # - 1083
godfrog 2 #47 May 12, 2006 I have seen gear left out, we used to put our gear in lockers in the hanger with no locks and never give it a second thought about it being tampered or stolen. sometimes gear may be left out for inspection or are in the middle of an inspection and it got late.We should be one big family, respect other peoples stuff and maybe look out for each other too. over the years the face of skydiving seems to be changing for the worse.Experience is a difficult teacher, she gives you the test first and the lesson afterward
