Alligator? Frog Legs? Snake?

Recommended Posts

So have you eaten either of these? If so, what do they taste like? ...ummmm...Chicken?

Inquiring minds want to know.:D

As I recall, alligator tail is kind of fatty--sort of like pork chops. Frog legs were kind of like chicken dark meat. I don't think I've had any snake.

Alligator is a tough meat. No flavor in my opinion. Rattle snake is good. But I wouldn't say it tastes like chicken.
Never tried frog legs.
Inquiring minds are wondering why you are asking this question :D:D

I went frog gigging with some friends one weekend just after graduating highschool...

after a night of gigging we had fresh frog legs...

the process was very disturbing... but the legs weren't too bad (although there wasn't a whole lot of meat... and um... yep... it was a bit like chicken.) :|

Do you have to skin the frog? Deepfry it?:P

Yes... although someone else did it... and that wasn't the disturbing part. :S

Deepfry it?

No... if I recall correctly we saute'd them in butter. :P

I've had alligator cooked several different ways. I was told it tasted like chicken. Hmm, not what it tasted like to Me, but oh well.
What I want to know tho is WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU TRY TO KILL AN ALLIGATOR IF IT WAS JUST GONNA TASTE LIKE CHICKEN? I mean wtf? Isn't it about a thousand times easier to kill and cook a chicken?

Strange,.. we were talking just today, about all the different kinds of critters we had tried. We found your selection to be overall not bad. However we had to draw the line at possum and raccoons. Pretty nasty stuff that.

I've eaten all three. Alligator and frog do taste similar to chicken, though the texture is a bit more rubbery and less like a meat like chicken is. Snake is a bit different, chewier and less flavorful. It's also a pain in the ass because it's mostly bone and it takes quite a bit of work to get the meat off the vertebrae. Snake was probably the most interesting meal of the three since I had it killed in front of me and was served the blood, gall bladder and beating heart in a flask of rice wine before they cooked it in four different ways (this was in Vietnam).

Of these three I much prefer frog legs because they're meatier have the most flavor.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

There is a guy at our dropzone that has a wild game feed every year and a bunch of us jump into his party. There is frog legs, snapping turtle, fish, and who else knows what, but every thing dissapears pretty fast. Some probably dont have a clue what there eating. It all sounds gross but is really tastee.

Popular depends on what part of the country you're in at the moment...
The area where I grew up the popular ones were... venison, rabbit and wild turkey (the bird, not the bottle)...
The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...

I did get to try dog in VN...rather bland and a little on the tough side but not bad all in all.

Frog legs are good stuff...several have already described the taste and texture.

Possum...I didn't get much of a taste for it because it was cooked in a pot of greens that overpowered everything else.

Rabbit was stringy and I can't describe the taste except to say not like chicken.

No snake that I can recall at this time.
My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

YES

Each one has its own unique flavor.. but when you deep fry it you loose some of that, still though all are unique.. and very good.
