Beatnik 2 #2 October 12, 2007 You have to go through the senior rigger exam. Written, oral and practical just like you would if you aren't a rigger. Unfortunately, there is no way to transfer or get credit for anything having another rigger rating unless you were a military rigger.
riggerrob 643 #3 October 12, 2007 I did just that 20 years ago. The process started with contacting an FAA Flight Standards District Office. After presenting my Canadian credentials, they allowed me to write the exam. A couple of months later, I visited FAA Designated Parachute Rigger Examiner Dave DeWolf for the oral and practical exams. Dave even taught me a few tricks about sewing patches (my weakest subject) and about seat packs. Don't worry, most DPREs are "practicing" riggers who limit practical exams to modern skydiving equipment. For example, the last time I sent a candidate to DPRE Farrington (in Washington State) he told me to limit PEP packing practice to Softies ... there being not much point to practicing packing military-surplus PEPs are most of them are worn out. The only difference - between the way they treated me and a new American rigger candidate - was that the FAA accepted my Canadian rigging logbook in lieu of a letter of recommendation. P.S. Dave, if you want me to write you a letter of recommendation, just tell me your mailing address.
