Finally watched the Sunday/Monday episodes today (yes, my TiVo got them all!).

Wow... I didn't cry till the very end when Alex carried Izzy away. Which surprised me because the whole time I was yelling at the TV "This is too much! This whole plot line is fucking NUTS."

But there's a lot to like about the show in general, but I agree that perhaps toning down the over-the-top soap opera stuff will make it stronger. I thought the scene where the Chief was interviewing each intern in turn was really well-done, and there's a lot of other stuff the show does in a more subtle way that makes it more powerful. So I can deal with the more crazy stuff, too.

Can't wait for new episodes this fall!

Oh, and as for "why do we watch?"

I bawled like a baby when they put the dog down, but that's mostly because of the memories of my own pets the scene brought back. I'm kind of ehhhh on the show. Too Soap-ish, and I'm really not that into the characters. Attractive young doctors sleeping with each other- so what? I actually find Crossing Jordan (same time slot) much more interesting if I'm looking for something to watch on a Sunday night.

How many medical examiners EVER do half the shit she does? It's like watching ER.

Oh, wait, I like ER. But I can embrace its complete and utter ridiculousness.

I thought the final show was a bit long and drawn out but all in all it was good. I heard they are moving to Thursday nights and ER was moving to Fridays. I also like Crossing Jordan and wished they weren't on at same time.
