sartre 0 #1 May 23, 2006 Forgive my Christian ignorance, but my daughter and I are invited to a Bar Mitzvah, and I need some info. Judging from the invitation, it's a formal affair, but how formal? What's a suitable gift? Any other etiquette I should know about?
Muenkel 0 #2 May 23, 2006 You're a little vague. Does the invitation say 'formal attire'? What type of reception hall is it; the K of C or a swanky banquet hall? Judging by what you did state, I'm assuming the men should be in a suit and the women in a dress. As for the gift, I always think that should be up to the attendee. dmcoco84 5 #3 May 23, 2006 Yes, it’s very formal. Just act like you’re in church and you'll be fine. Gift - Is whatever - What would a 13 year old like. And just for education purposes - here is some reading for ya. http://www.jewfaq.org/barmitz.htm Coco
skymama 37 #4 May 23, 2006 My son went to one and it was a dress-up affair. As far as a gift goes, we were told there's something special about the number 18 in the Jewish faith, and so people gave monetary gifts in multiples of 18. Maybe someone else knows the reasoning behind that. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
