Ripcord replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi steve,

Get some old ripcord (with sufficient length) with the same type of handle that you will need for your new ripcord.

Pack the rig up, put your 'dummy' ripcord in the pocket and thread the cable/pins through the housing, then do your best to figure out the necessary pin spacing (one way is to put some masking tape on the cable and mark on the tape where you want the pins), then remove the 'dummy' ripcord and measure it out so that you can send this information onto whomever you want to make it for you.

I would advise allowing at least 2 inches for the ball to be beyond where the cable goes through the ripcord handle.

I hope that you can understand what I am trying to convey to you.

You might just consider getting two ripcords made so that you have a backup.

Hope that this gets you going in the right direction,

JerryBaumchen

Well if he don't know, that is the same type of rig I need a R.C. for that you & I talked about couple weeks ago, so I can always pass along the info. I just haven't measured it yet.

I was going to cheat and temp pin one of the other two rigs I have and measure one of those, I know they are orginal old stock if not factory made.;)

I use to get all my custom ones made from jumpshack and they do a great job and at a good price too, but I did get a better offer a few weeks back from a cool old schooler out on the left coast.;)

Jerry gave you some good advice.

I just wanted to add that the last step - in the inspection process - involves picking up the rig rig by the ripcord housing and glancing to ensure that there is still a bit of slack between the ball end and the handle.
