Cruises.

Prime example of different experiences (that sounded awful:().

Our pool on the ship I learned to scuba (they had PADI courses offered during the cruise) was HUGE! And 15 feet deep! I remember b/c we had to do pool training during the first day so that we'd be ready for dives by the first stop:P

I could have had a good time with that! Our ship was the Celebrity (I think). It was new and was supposely the big ship in their fleet. Maybe smaller, less people would have made for a better experience.

I like extremes in cruising. In my experience the biggest also have the biggest rooms/pools, etc. (Of the four I went on, one was in-between "medium" sized and was my least favorite.)

The smaller ones like the windjammers Wendy mentioned or the yahts (with just 2-4 couples aboard) are also VERY fun and acommodating:P Actually I like the smaller better, but they're more pricey. My entrepreneurial friend owned one for a little while, fortunately. But, actually I think I would pay to do that one again:P

My husband had been a few before we went on the Carnival one and he said he had a good time, but he also noted that the service had gone down hill and he didn't like the buy 5 give one free cruise offers constantly hammering you.

I wanted to relax not shop.

I think she should go Royal.

From what I have heard Carnival is for somebody who wants to get plastered every night and Royal is for somebody who wants to relax. I could be wrong. Also, Canaveral is not as hectic as Miami. The drawback with sailing out of the cape is that you spend more time sailing (Canaveral is a midway up the east coast of FL as compared to Miami near the tip). If you go to the cape you can do all the touristy things: Ron Johns, Cocoa Beach, NASA, etc. ;)

I'm not sure if I'd like a cruise or not. I'm not real enthused about the idea of someone else telling me when and where I have to be during my vacation.

But I guess I'd be willing to give it a try, since you probably won't enjoy it without me. ;)

Another question... I have a year to do this... when is the best time of year?

I'm good whenever... I've still got 15 of my 20 days of vacation left this year. :P

Its Cape Canaveral..... Its just too much to type. But they are the same thing. Its due east of Orlando, and i bit south of NASA. If I lived in Virgina I would take the cruise during the winter. You get a nice break from the cold and get to impress your friends back home with your tan. Here in winter it gets down to 60 or 70 and sometimes it is in the mid 80's. Farther south it will be warmer. If you were going to take it in the next few months be prepared for HEAT! Winter will be more mellow but still warm enough to play in the water. I live 20 mins from the cape so if you have any questions just ask.

Agreed about departing from the Cape.

Don't get me wrong--I enjoy Miami Beach--I spent a lot of time there working. But you have to be "in the mood" for it;)

And best time of year is just after hurricane season---October, November, even December it's still plenty warm and fun in the Carribean---OR early Spring before the "Spring Break" crowd. I always went, for whatever reason in late October.:P

I seriously doubt that you will get sea sick.....maybe drunk sick;);) Boats have huge stablilizers now a days....and they have these awesome little things that you can place behind your ears to cover any sea sickness.

Cruises are a blast....there is lots to do.....lots to NOT do.....and lots to eat......things are open 24/7....the spas are awesome....I have been on three and am looking forward to going on another!!!

Congrats on your win!!!!!!!!

till later have fun & love each other seeya mb65johnny gates....

Just a personal note here...

Carnival seems to be taking a beating on this thread. I am neither an employee or a part owner so I have no motive one way or the other, but every Carnival Cruise my wife and I have been on was wonderful. We always had great entertainment, great food and great service. I am not saying don't go with the Royal cruise, just stating that we have never had anything but wonderful trips with wonderful service. I am not sure what the "herding around issue was, but we didn't experience anything like that. Treated like kings!

So, who's been on a cruise? Tell me about it. Am I going to get sea sick??

I've been on six. All different ports of call and several different cruise lines. There is always something to do on the ship as well as off. Food is great, good entertainment. I've really enjoyed them.
As to being sea sick...well I can't answer that. Do you have a propensity for motion sickness? If so think Dramamine.
Have a fabulous time!

Actually, Dave YOU get to pick when and where as there is a cruise for just about every sea-side destination and time of year.:P

Yeah, but they'll say stuff like "You must be back at the boat by 7 PM" and "You'll have two hours to shop before the bus leaves for the ruins". When I'm on vacation, I do whatever I'm doing until I feel like doing something different. If I'm having a really good time somewhere, I might stay an extra night there and skip a night somewhere else. Among the things that irk me, absolute, unflexible schedules rank fairly high. ;)

I've been on two cruises. The first one was on the Carribean Ecstacy. It sucked. It was a 4 day cruise, left out of Miami, went to the Keys, Cozumel (the coolest part was snorkeling there and shopping) and then we turned around and came back...the room did not have a window and that REALLY sucked. This was during the month of December and El Nino was going on...so the seas were rough.

The second cruise I went on was on the Celebrity Century. It rocked. It was a 7 day cruise that also took out of the Port of Miami. It was during Spring Break (March) and this cruise line tends to cater toward the older crowd. We went to San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and the Bahamas. The food was incredible. I love going to different places and haggling for different things. I never bought anything on the cruise ship and the coolest thing was swimming with the dolphins in the Bahamas. It's fun to dress up and go to the Captain's Dinners and dance and stuff. If you've never been, I would check it out at least once. With everything, people have an opinion about it and if I had not gone on the second cruise just because of my experience on the first one, I really would have missed out.

I've never taken one less than 7 days/nights but I can tell you that even that won't seem like very long b/c you spend virtually the entire first day or so at sea (which is still loads of fun) and the entire last day or so. In general, for cruising, I'd HIGHLY recommend AT LEAST a 10-day/night.:)
