Nudist Colony/Beach

Anyone ever been to a nudist colony or a nudist beach? I really want to go... is the whole thing filled with old guys, or are people pretty cool? Also... any in Florida that you know of?

Yep, there's one north of Titusville and I think one in Longboat Key near Sarasota or at least there was when I was there growing up. No, I haven't been to either. I just think there's going to be a bunch of fat, ugly guys there whom I don't want to see naked.

There's a place in Austin called Hippy Hollow. I've only been there once.

I haven't talked to him about it, but something tells me Walt has much more interesting stories about Hippy Hollow than I do.

Some friends and I used to routinely go to blacks beach just north of San Diego. The old people didn't bother me much, it was the (uncommon) instances of people having sex in public in broad daylight that kinda freaked me out. Luckily it wasn't all that populated most of the time, so we usually had our own couple hundred yards worth of beach to ourselves and didn't have to worry about it.

Gail, it's true...and I don't think you would feel comfortable there...honestly. Just lookin out for a sister.

I went to a nude beach in the south of France (father in law insisted I go) and it was ewwww....grosss...my eyes burned...from all of the hairy, beached whales...and to make it worse, I was downwind of the non-shavers (yes, armpits) and about freakin gagged!

Went to Orr Hot Springs in NorCal and it spanned the gammit from family with young kids, various aged hippies, and old guys . It wasn't really my thing but I felt comfortable and it had a nice vibe. Nothing creepy.

Harbin is another one in the area that is larger and I've heard it is more of the hippie crowd and creepy oggling old men. Each place is different.

There is a couple of nudist colonies north of Tampa.
Haven't been to either one. You can rent a condo for the weekend. The residents are mostly couples and they discourage single guys for the obvious problems.

There are nude beaches, but most are just secluded spots and the amount of open sex usually gets them closed.

The only ones perusing the chicks are paunchy, older guys. The younger guys are there with each other.

When I had my boat, I spent every weekend on the water. I knew all the beaches.
The best beaches were the islands that you could only get to by boat. All the honeys were topless on the front of a nice boat. Nudity was very rare though.

Went there a whole lotta times years ago. Waaaaaaaaaay before it was an official park. It's been through a lot of phases, but early on it was just a nice, secluded place to go skinnydipping.

These days I really can't say I'd recommend going to a nude beach unless it's some sort of a controlled environment.

As for Skymama's fear of seeing fat old men naked, that just goes with the territory, I'm afraid.

Here in Tahoe there is only one place that I know of that people consider a nude beach. Of all the names they could have named it "Hidden Beach." Most of the people who go down there aren't half bad.

I used to frequent nude beaches in Germany and Holland.
... liked to run naked along Crescent Beach in Nova Scotia.... liked to walk along a "clothing optional beach on Long Island, NY.
Sure there were a few old folks, but also plenty of healthy young folks. I just ignored the ones that I was not attracted to.The dominate mood was respect.
People respected each other's privacy.

Well, obviously I cannot speak about US reality about nudist beaches/places, but I can tell my experience in my neck of the woods.
I am used to go to a "nudist" beach in my hometown in summertime with my girlfriend. I wrote nudist in inverted commas because it is NOT officially a nudist beach. It is so de facto because it's a quite difficult (=not so easy) beach to reach (you gotta do a small climb). This beach is surrounded by rocky cliffs, small passage to get to it.
The fact that it is not so easy to reach means that it is quite secluded and the "average" family cannot hit that beach by chance, and people started to sunbath naked there, and tradition has remained.
And because this "difficulty" in reaching this beach, authorities tolerate that people sunbath naked there.
Everybody in my area knows that "that" is a nudist beach, so if the "average" people with kids does not want their kids look at adult nude people, the above "average" family simply does not go there (that nudist beach is really small, plus there are plenty of "normal" beaches all over the area).
This "nudist" beach is really free, if you want to take your swimming suit off, it's fine, as well as there are people that keep their swimming suit on, that's fine also.
What my big point is: people don't go to a nudist beach to watch other naked people, a real nudist goes to a nudist beach to feel free, that's it. It's very simple. For the freedom.
It's an incredible feeling to stay without swimming suit while staying on a beach, when you swim, when you walk, when you sunbathe, when you talk to people.
So, I don't care if there are old fat people without clothes; in "my" nudist beach there are quite few old people, none of them is fat, but I wouldn't care if some of them were fat.
I do not stare at the girls that sunbath in the nude, so why should I care if some old folks like to sunbath in the nude, why should I care if some old folks like to feel free exactly as I like to feel free?
As I do not stare at nude girls, I simply don't care if someone (=girls) look at me thinking I am nice or I am ugly, I stay there, I do not put myself deliberately with my nudity in front of anybody, I stay on my own with my girlfriend, so I think I am not "hurting" anybody with my nudity (in a place where 50% of people is naked).
If someone is looking at me, I don't care, I think I am not doing anything bad (after all, I am in a place where half the people stay without clothes on), so if you look at me or you do not look at me, it's still fine.
"Living" a nudist beach it's a matter of how free you feel, NOT a matter of "others looking at me" NOR a matter of "I look at others".
I think a nudist beach is a "pleasure" for everybody, not only for young/fit/extremely good looking young people.
Should all "not-good-looking-people" shoot themselves or should they not to stay under the sun without clothes if they feel like doing so? I don't think so...
Should be nude sunbathing only a privilege of the rich/nicelooking actor-like people that sunbath nude on their million $ yacths? I don't think so.
I haven't got the body of a superathlete, but if I like to stay naked under the sun in a place where I cause no disconfort to anyone, I don't see why I shouldn't do so. I like to stay naked because of the freedom coming with it, NOT to look at other naked people, NOR to show off my HOT body (which is NOT so hot ).
When my eyes are on a naked girl by chance, firstly I think that I know that they are naked NOT for me but because they like to feel free, second I think they are sweet, are sweet also the not-perfect-body girls, that's it.
The world (nudist beaches included) belongs to everyone, not only to supermen/superwomen.
If anybody thinks about going to a nudist beach to watch people (considering nude good/superb looking young people to be "nice to look" and considering nude fat old people to be "terrible to look") is simply deadly wrong.

I've been to the 'clothing optional beach' off the NJ coastline, and it's great. It's so nice. Some people wearing bathing suits and such, but very few do. No one seems to care, or notice what others are doing. It's really great. I've never seen anyone paying attention to what i'm doing or what i look like, and sure... there are "fat guys around", but there are other people around too. And as it was already stated, who really cares. You're just there to be enjoying the beach, nothing more.

One of the ones around Tampa is Lake Como in Lutz...just North of Tampa...I'm pretty sure it's still there.

Went there once (long story) but it was about a 50-50 split of old and young. Visitors welcome.

My reality and yours are quite different.

I've been, in the Caribbean. It was fine. I didn't realize it was a nude/topless beach when I went, and it wasn't an all-nude one. But people would just disrobe right there. Of course, my son doesn't want to know anything about his mother's having gone to a topless beach

Ya know, if someone who is older or not in shape wants to have fun, it's their business, isn't it? Hair likewise. That stuff matters to them, and their partners. And women's hairy armpits don't smell any worse than men's hairy armpits. Hairy guys are just that, hairy guys. BFD.

There's little that feels as good as a comfortable skinny-dipping session; I'd go again if it were convenient, and suited whoever I was with. If I were alone and it was somewhere that was about the swimming and self, and not ogling, I'd probably go again. But that would mean some other country, and not the US most likely.

In college I spent a semester in Greece, and one time our group was on the island of Nisyros sitting on the edge of a small cliff reading Homer when we happened to look down to the beach below and sure enough there were a couple of naked Germans. Crazy Germans.

Fireflytx and I went to a nude beach at our resort in Jamaica. Other than one old guy who liked to stare, the people were really nice and minded their own business. We ended up meeting a really cool couple there and talked with them for hours. At first, it was strange to be sitting there naked carrying on a conversation with someone you just met, but after a while it was just about the conversation. Plus the guy yelled at the old guy and said, "What the hell are you staring at?" and he left. We are going back to that resort in December again and i know we will go back to the nude beach.
