niolosoiale 0 #1 May 25, 2006 So yesterday, I had some sweet post-nasal drip going on. Allergies are getting bad this time of year so it's expected. I knew I was going to go home, go to sleep, and wake up feeling sick, and I did. But I knew it was just an allergy thing so I committed myself to going into work and taking some allergy medicine and attempting to power through the day. After about an hour or two of working I was starting to feel some aches in my limbs and some head congestion. At one point, one of the service advisors brings a customer in to pick up her car and pay. After getting all my stuff taken care off (taking payment, getting signatures etc) I laid my head down on my arms. I get back from lunch and my boss calls me in and asks me what the hell I was doing putting my head down with a customer in there. I didn't know what he was talking about at first, but then I told him I only did it due to feeling sick. Gave me this rip about people's perception of what was happening. He told me if I was that sick I should just go home. So here I am trying to put out a little more effort than someone else may have and not get taken down by some allergy problems. I didn't want to leave early cause I figured that would look bad. I didn't want to not come in because that makes it hard on everyone else. I should have just stayed home. Now im going home as soon as my coworker gets back from lunch. No appreciation.
ifall 0 #2 May 25, 2006 Do you think the customer you were with said something to your boss? No offense meant by this but if someone was to fold up their arms and put their head on them I would take it as they were annoyed or frustrated by my presence. Just my $.
niolosoiale 0 #3 May 25, 2006 That's exactly what happened. Of course, I don't find anything out about this until later, and I'll assume by boss didn't realize I was sick, so I rationalize he didn't care to tell the customer that. But I dont think the customer would give a shit anyway. "It's not my fault he's sick" Yeah well it's not my fault your car broke either. It's not like I deny it looking bad, but I just shouldn't have been there in the first place. I fucking love these people though. They just look for reasons to be offended. Maybe I'm way too passive but if I have sub-par service, I'm not very quick to jump down someone's throat about it. Roll up to McDonald's, guy running the drive through says "Uh, we close in 15 minutes." I just say "OK" and drive off. I thought to say "Great that means you're still open." I could have raised a big shit storm about it but I didn't. And that was a pretty extreme situation compared to my day. People need to worry about more important things than ripping other people up when they don't even truly understand why they are upset. I just need to stay away from work everytime I feel shitty. ifall 0 #4 May 25, 2006 I understand what you mean. Maybe you could have just said something like sorry I'm really not feeling well today. Yeah, like that would work. Too bad we have to justify everything we do to everyone or they might take offense. I work in IT so I deal with a lot of people who are quick to judge and blame. People love to blame their incompetence and problems they have on the job on their computer. I just wish people would take on their problems with the person that they have the problem with instead of going to their boss. Sometimes I get really sick of people. Every once in a while someone does something to negate that feeling though.
