PLFXpert 0 #51 May 25, 2006 Quoteconstruction company...Oh and the pay is near double what i made at my old job. People don't realize how much money is in construction. Just yesterday my friend was telling me about a mutual friend of ours who is a stay-at-home mom with 3 kids (AT 25!!!) and her husband is a landscape architect. She made the comment "How the hell can she stay at hom when he's 'just a landscaper'". I laughted and said, "Hunny, I can name at least 3 landscape architects here at the beaches that make more than 6 figures (which is not too shabby). I provide worker's comp policies, beneifts, payroll, etc. to construction contractors/builders. They spend a TON of money on comp and I get a percentage, while saving them on their premium. It's win-win for sales. My accounts love me (and I love that they're still with me) and the best part is, if I have to meet with them (which is rare) I get to do so in jeans. When I worked with multi-millionare clients as a mortgage broker I wore business attire and delt with VERY high maintenance clientelle. A lot of these builders are also millionares---and yet they'll be in jeans too and laugh up a strom with me. I LOVE that. LOVE my job. PS. You should see my friend/co-worker. She used to work for Ritz-Carlton real estate and came to my company. When she meets with her clients, she still wears Gucci I love her. She's hilariousPaint me in a corner, but my color comes back. MarkM 0 #53 May 26, 2006 Started programming computers when I was 12 years old in the 80's. Captain of the computer team, had my first programming job at 17, etc. But didn't want a career in it because computers to me back then were suit and tie jobs. Majored in Psychology in college for a few years, til I went down to Bloomington IN to study Cognative Psychology which was taking off back then. Got introduced to the internet at that school, skipped all my classes to play with that and got kicked out off the campus. The internet boom took off and suddenly programmers were over-paid bums who could take their dogs to work. So I went back into that field and have been bouncing back and forth between programmer and systems admin ever since.
