Why do people clap?

Recommended Posts

I find it that there are two particular instance where people clap and iot confuses the fuck out of me. One would be at the end of a movie in a theater, and the other when the pilot lands the plane. Why?

its just boiled down to a show of appreciation for not killing them.

I don't get it either. I EXPECT him/ her to NOT kill me. I feel if the pilot gets applause so should everyone who has a non eventful day at work;)

the movie thing... i haven't seen that in a while. maybe they think the actors are realy onstage:ph34r:

I mean maybe we should start clapping at McDonalds when they get our orders right the first time, or how about clapping for the people who round up the shopping carts at the grocery store. It is just strange.

Well, I recently either started to or just began to notice that I make teenie, tiny claps when I am very happy and laughing. :S I thought the other day "how stupid must I look." The shit is definitely coming to an end, though and ASAP!!! :D

Last time I clapped after the plane landed.. it was because I honestly thought the pilot was going to kill us... and I wasn't applauding him/her... it was for the fates not having a bad hair day.

Tommorow when my boyfriend gets home from work I shall clap and yell out, "Bravo Jeffrey!! Bravo."

Don't do it right when he gets home from work. Save it for later. Make him earn it ... then say "Encore, encore!";)

Well, you see, in the good old days, people power got all the work done. And back then, most of the work was backbreaking, dirty labor.

So after the work was all done, everyone would clap their hands togther to help disperse the dust, and loosen the muck. Then they could shake hands and thank eachother for a job well done.

Which of course evolved into our modern tradition of clapping in appreciation for something done well.\
