jakee 1,595 #1 May 26, 2006 This is probably old news to people that keep up with this kind of thing but I've just found out that Stardust (most charming, gorgeously written book ever!) is being made into a movie! Seeing as how the whole fantasy world blockbuster type thing has been doing well after after LOTR and Narnia's success its got a £50Mil budget, stars Robert DeNiro, Clare Danes and Michelle Pfeiffer and is being directed by Matthew Vaughn (bit of a step away from Brit flick gangster movies but he seems to have a cool sense of humour). They filmed scenes in Wall about a month ago in a village about an hour away from where I live and I heard nothing about it, and they're filming in Inverness and Skye at the moment (Stormhold?) Release will be sometime next year and I can't wait to see what its like. A few links Do you want to have an ideagasm?

jakee 1,595 #3 May 26, 2006 No, but it's out on DVD in a month or so, I might pick it up then. Sounds like a very cool 'experimental' kind of film. To be honest the novels and short stories are all that I've really read/seen of Neil Gaimans work, I haven't even read the Sandman, although I keep meaning to get hold of some. The depth, detail, atmosphere and sheer versatility of his writing just blows me away. Utterly unlike anything I've ever read.Do you want to have an ideagasm? McDuck 0 #4 May 26, 2006 I've got Mirrormask on DVD already. It was out over a month ago. I enjoyed the story and the visuals, but I know of at least one Gaiman fan who hated Mirrormask. If I'm not mistaken, "Books of Magic" is also becoming a movie. I thought I had heard a whisper that they were taking "Sandman" to the big screen, but I may have been mistaken.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school. oosskis 0 #5 May 26, 2006 Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, funniest book I've ever read."Bodygolfing" isn't as much fun as it sounds. People get pissed when you don't replace your divets.
jakee 1,595 #6 May 26, 2006 Quote I've got Mirrormask on DVD already. It was out over a month ago. Oh cool. I'll go and look for it tomorrow. One of his kids books 'Coraline' (haven't read it) is being made into a stop motion animation which could be fun, and hopefully very creepy. I was just surprised that it was Stardust getting the blockbuster treatment, now that I think about it the story does have all the right ingredients but it was the writing style that blew me away first time I read it. I'd love to see a good director take on American Gods.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
jakee 1,595 #7 May 26, 2006 Quote Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, funniest book I've ever read. Love it! Thats what first turned me on to Gaimans writing, I've been a fan of Terry Pratchett since forever. On the surface Good Omens is stylistically a very Pratchett book, but there's so much of Gaiman's influence story and character wise - particularly in the darker moments. But Neil Gaimans solo novels are, quite simply, masterpieces. Really stunning work and each one with an incredibly unique style. There are very strong undercurrents of madly twisted traditional myths and legends that run through them all but the atmosphere of each book is so, so different to all the others.Do you want to have an ideagasm? McDuck 0 #8 May 26, 2006 I recently read a letter from Gaiman regarding rumors spreading about the Sandman movie. It was very interesting. Apparently he's a bit stand-offish in real life.Kevin - Sonic Beef #5 - OrFun #28 "I never take myself too seriously, 'cuz everybody know fat birds don't fly." - FLC Online communities: proof that people never mature much past high school.
