Slappie 9 #1 May 26, 2006 I was taking the Mazda in for service last Friday. While sitting there I picked up an Road & Track in the waiting room to peruse. I noticed a review of the Audi A3 2.0T so I sat and read it while they changed the oil and rotated my tires. Perked my interest big time. I've always liked the 5door hatchbacks.. the A3 is a 5dr HB... Well I left the Mazda dealer... headed down the road to Audi. Stopped in to "look" at one. Salesman asked if I wanted to drive it. "Sure!" ... Was about an hour and a half later I was bailed in a 6spd manual to take home for the night. I hadn't made up my mind... Well... I went back the next day and picked out a nice Luxo/Sport model automatic with DSG. Bye bye zoom-zoom hello "WAAAAAHHHHHOOOOOOOOOO" I've loaded up some pics for those curious. The one titled rvmirror is for those who think I've lost my skydiving roots. Most of the moms in my area are driving huge SUVs. They wouldn't be caught dead in my lil "wagon" not enough space... Here is a stock pic of what I used to drive. Slappie 9 #12 May 26, 2006 Quotethat car rules, too bad it's automatic. DSG = faster shifts then a manual and mucho more smooth. **edit** You'll see I had test drove a 6spd manual. I liked it a lot. I also live in Houston and drive rush hour traffic everyday. The DSG was a better compromise. I get the automatic for daily driving and the DSG when I wanna get on it. Also REVO makes a chip program (you dont replace eProms anymore) that'll give me 270hp & 299ft lbs of TQ. Only problem I see is it VOIDS THE WARRANTY! So it'll be a few before I invest in a new eProm program. Try and imagine 270hp & 299ft lbs TQ in a 2900lb car. If it's like the new VW manual tran then I hear you can't even tell the diff and that it does shift faster. It's freaking amazing how fast and smooth the swap in gears are. I've got steering wheel paddles!! It's fun! QuoteCan you still peel out though? I accidently smoked the tires in 1st - 3rd lastnight.. Put the automatic in S and hold on ... doesn't shift until 4500rpms then slams you in the seat thru 4th. Remster 30 #21 May 26, 2006 QuoteQuoteI've got steering wheel paddles!! It's fun! That car has "Paddle Shift?" It's an automatic, right? I've got paddle shift in one of my new cars, it's way cool. Its actually a pretty cool automatic. It pre-engages the next gear when you shift, so shifting up is actually faster and more efficient then with a manual. The 0-60 time is actually faster with these trannies then the manuals. Its the kind of technol.ogy that was only avaiulable in very top of the line cars (and F1s )Remster
Slappie 9 #22 May 26, 2006 QuoteThe 0-60 time is actually faster with these trannies then the manuals. Performance 0-60 mph in seconds: 6.7 (DSG); 6.9 (6-speed manual) Top track speed: 130 mph* EPA fuel economy estimates (city/highway)*: DSG: 25/31 manual: 24/32 * Maximum speed electronically limited to 130 mph in the U.S. Obey all speed and traffic laws. Your mileage may vary The DSG, like the gearboxes in Audi's Le Mans-winning R8 race cars, is not a torque-converter automatic. Rather, it uses a conventional manual gearset and two motorcycle-like multi-plate wet clutches. At least one clutch is always engaged, for seamless power transmission, and shifting is done either automatically, by computer-controlled electronic/hydraulic mechanisms or manually via steering column-mounted shift paddles. rwieder 0 #24 May 26, 2006 Does your car, or that particular model come equipped, or is an option available for a HUD as well? Just curious. (Heade Up Display)-Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
Slappie 9 #25 May 26, 2006 No HUD... I don't even think the 3.2 is equiped or has it optional.
