mfrese 0 #1 May 30, 2006 ...is that I personally was having one of the best skydiving weekends of my FUCKING LIFE!! Did 15 tandems, 0 fun jumps, but the conditions were awesome, all my students were lively and fun, the weather was clear and absolutely gorgeous. It was great...for me. Rest of the staff was having a bad weekend, students were being stupid, had a low-timer bang himself up badly, people were stressed and pissed. Wrote that off to karma, but I was still happy. Then I heard about Ohio, then Kentucky, then Empuriabrava. Took until this morning to hear about Shannon. Stupid irony. I hope all my weekends suck from now on, it would be a small price to pay to not have to go through this shit again.Doctor I ain't gonna die, Just write me an alibi! ---- Lemmy/Slash
Darius11 12 #2 May 30, 2006 Bro I know what you mean. I had an awesome weekend. I was all happy and shit met awesome people it was all-good. This morning I feel like someone just pulled my plug. I have never had any doubts that you can get killed or fucked up in this sport, but this weekend truly did suck.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
ntrprnr 0 #3 May 30, 2006 I was thinking something similar... I didn't jump, but went to a friend's beachhouse in the Hamptons, thinking that just this once, I wouldn't hate the Hamptons with every fiber of my being. Of course, I did, was miserable, and came back Sunday morning, to bad news, more bad news, and then even more bad news. :-( Just goes to show me - I should never go to the Hamptons._______________ "Why'd you track away at 7,000 feet?" Bolas 5 #5 May 30, 2006 I was having a shitty weekend: stuck at home, injured knee, house problems, house cleaning, work crap, etc. Then the instant I heard what happened, it just all seemed so trivial. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
monkycndo 0 #6 May 30, 2006 I had planned to make 15 jumps over the 3 day weekend. Was told about GFD after making my 14th incredible jump of the weekend. I was floored. Didn't know what to do. Sat around trying to make sense of it. I knew she would want me to finish what I started and make my 15th jump. Did a solo 15K HnP and just flew around looking at the beauty that I had shared with her on a few jumps. While soaring over the DZ, had a good cry and a few smiles as I remembered some of the good times we had shared. Had the whole landing area to myself and made my softest landing of the day in the dead center of the peas. At least she saw me do it.

skydiverbrian 0 #15 May 31, 2006 Thanks for a positive thread after all the bad news. I'll share the highlights of my weekend, too: great jumps and FIRST hybrid (me hanging); then great scuba diving with friendly turtles and huge jewfish! Ah, life is grand. Live it! skydivermom 0 #16 May 31, 2006 I went to my first boogie on Saturday....and FOUGHT with myself for almost six hours to stay on the ground because the winds were unacceptable. It was so hard not to get on that plane, but I KNEW it would not be a good idea. They winds calmed down around sunset, and I got a couple of jumps in. I remember thinking who knows what was prevented by not jumping until the winds subsided. How I wish there was a lot more that was preventedMrs. WaltAppel All things work together for good to them that love God...Romans 8:
RastaRicanAir 0 #17 May 31, 2006 Saturday night my tent at Emerald Coast (due to poor surveying on my part) was invaded by fire ants , and I spent two hours emptying all of my bags and shaking the little bastards out of every last stitch of clothing. Then I repacked my luggage and stuffed it all into Hefty bags. Sunday afternoon, a torrential cloudburst blew over half a dozen tents, including mine, but while everybody else's suff got wet, mine stayed dry because I was protecting it from the ants. I think that's ironic. But a good thing happening to this person while an awful thing happens to that one, I think that's what we call "life." I also had one of the best boogie weekends of my life. I don't know any fellow jumpers -here or elsewhere- who would expect us to feel guilty for that.OrFunV/LocoBoca Rodriguez/Sonic Grieco/Muff Brother #4411 -"and ladies....messin with Robbie is venturing into territory you cant even imagine!-cuz Robbie is

happythoughts 0 #20 May 31, 2006 Quotebrian, what's a jewfish? Not to answer for Brian, but it's a favorite topic. A Jewfish is a really big grouper. They are also called Goliath Grouper because they can get to 500 lbs. (some people say 800-900). 150 lbs is not uncommon. They are awesome to see. fish
skydiverbrian 0 #21 May 31, 2006 Quotealso called Goliath Grouper True, true. Technically, they're a different species than grouper, but it's a scientific difference. I don't think we're supposed to call them jewfish anymore in deference of political correctness. However, people choose what they are offended by, so I say they've been called jewfish for years and jewfish they remain. Here's a couple pics of what I saw Monday. The jewfish wasn't in the mood for posing for pictures. In a world full of people, only some want to fly... isn't that crazy! --Seal
