Does anyone work for a company that transports patients?

Recommended Posts

I just got a call from a friend. He was injured today while skydiving in Mexico. He fractured his pelvis. I'm frantically trying to find a medical ambulance to get him from the hospital in Playa del carmen (60 miles from Cancun) to the US. So far, I've been quoted roughly $21,000 for this service.

Does anyone know of a company that does medical transport from Mexico to the US for a reasonable amount of money?

Look up doctors without boarders. They can probable help you out.

Not sure if MSF do transport but they might make a referral (info below). Also, you could contact the folks who run BASE trips to the cave of the swallows in Mexico. They have probably at least planned for this type of thing. http://aerialextreme.com/cb/leaders.html

You can reach the U.S. offices of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) by any of the means listed below.

I work for a small private ambulance company in the High Desert area of So. Cal (Ridgecrest). We'd be no help to you, but I will ask around at work. Some of the guys have been around forever and might have some suggestions. Unfortunately 21 grand sounds about right, ridiculous but true.

Good luck

he has a fractured pelvis, is it stablelized? is he currently on any machines? where you looking to be flown or ground transport?
I have transported by ground a pelvis injury and we drove just a little over 70 miles to the recieving hosp.
Other then the pain med issue it was a very minimal transport. any reason your family can't do the transport?
