shermanator 4 #7 June 2, 2006 no, but i HATE that commercial for kellogs wheats... the starts the word ar.. then corrects herself aar... hmm, I never participated, but my mom was involved as a teacher, and even I know that once you start, you can't change letters, can start over from the beginning of the word, but have to keep same letters already used.. stupid commercial!CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
skymama 37 #8 June 2, 2006 I saw about the last half-hour of it. I really wasn't planning on watching it when I was scrolling through the channels, but those girls kept me glued to my seat! I couldn't spell any of the words either. I saw the winner on tv this morning. She knew the winning word and had studied it with her parents. She really kept her composure till the end!She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
kallend 2,148 #9 June 2, 2006 I think spelling bees are stupid. I bet the overwhelming majority of contestants could not use any of the words from the last couple of rounds in conversation or in a written paper. My son won a Chicago public schools spelling bee back in the '80s. They gave the kids a long list of words that could come up. But NO MEANINGS. What use is it to be able to spell moiety or peregrination if you don't know what it means? I think we should concentrate on getting everyone to know the difference between their, they're and there, and to, two and too.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
