Selling photos of your tandems.. ok or not?

Recommended Posts

Hmmm.... good question. Did the vidiographer have the student sign a waiver releasing their rights to the picutre? For what use? To promote the business or for sale? I think it's more of a legal thing than anything else. If the waiver was signed, sure.... go to town. Look at all the pictures sold in Ikea!!! Vidiots have to make money somehow. But without the permision of the student, that would be kind of uncool.

Trent Reznor did a skydive near his former home in New Orleans and had pictures taken during his freefall. Did you know Trent actually smiles? The pictures prove it. All pictures were taken by me, the only skydiver photographer that jumped with Trent, .... This is truly a monumentous and unique treasure. You and your friends will be astounded. All pictures are 4" x 6" prints.

Testimonials:

"Just got [the pictures] in the mail earlier today. OH MY GOD!!!! THESE ARE INCREDIBLE!! I really mean it. WOW!!! Thank you SOOOOOO SOOOOOO much for sending me these! I owe you big time!"

"I got the pictures in the mail today and i just have to say they are amazing!!!! thank you so much for the chance to own these amazing pictures!!"

would your friends be astouned that you have "pictures of Trent " ?

Awww, you and wildcard are in a funk today. Someone pee in your cheerios??

Anyway, I didn't even think about whether or not it was real. I was refering to a waiver that the student must sign if you want to reuse the photo. Or at least to CYOA. We had one at my last dz.

I was thinking about this last night because I took this really sweet exit shot that I want to use on my website and on the dz website. But the kid never signed anything to the best of my knowlege.

Anyway, don't get all pissy with me for answering the question. GOSH! :P

Hmm... well this guy took the photo... I think legally that means he has the copyright to it... and doing a tandem skydive isnt a private matter... but I have no clue honestly.

Putting aside if it's true or not,I didn't even go look at it,I think ownership depends of weather or no the photographer was paid to take the pics and if there was a waiver signed.I beleive if someone pays you to take a photo and there is no waiver then that person owns the photo and copyright.Is there a lawyer in the house?

If Trent signed a release, then legally, the photographer can do whatever he wants with the pics. Otherwise, Trent's agent (likely an attorney) probably won't be very happy that people are profiting off his client.

Assuming this was done without Trent's permission (even if the legal fine print allows this);
Morally (as a photographer), I think this is very wrong.

Next time you want a picture taken with a celebrity, and they decline, just remember it's because of people like this.... [:/]

Shhh... you hear that sound? That's the sound of nobody caring!
