How much sexual content is in this movie?

My soon to be 15 year old son wants me to rent it for him. I'm getting ready to go a party and I don't have time to watch it first.

Anyone see it?

Let him watch it or pick something else?

There isnt much at all. There is some dirty talk though!!! My favorite line is when the guys are in the shower and one marine yells out: "HEY , look, its a cock...only smaller!!"

Thats allright, I think 15 year olds are pretty expert in that area;), I know I was.:$

That scene was sooo screwed up! For me, it was more of the stuff they didn't show (but let you imagine) that really got me. I don't know that 14/15 yr. old would be able to pick up on all of it but I agree w/ AggieDave, there is a lot more in that movie than sexual content that is disturbing.

I gotta' ask you though: You're ok with your kid watching gruesome killings, torture, etc. but you put a big NO on sex scenes?

Well, he's at that age where he loves horror movies - like Saw. I watched it with him - it was gross.

If the choice was between something sexual and something horror, I'd pick horror.

If I were you, I would stick to pre-watching the movies. Only you know for sure what you want your kids to see and what you dont. So if you dont have time to pre-watch it yourself and decide, then I think he should have to wait until another time. Trust me, it wont be the last oppertunity he gets to watch it.

If it will make him feel any better, I do not think that 15 year old will be entertained by it, anyway. The plot revolves around how psychologically difficult it is to be in that sitation - probably not something in which he will be interested. Rent Platoon instead.

Ditto with Flyinghonu and AggieDave. I found the movie pretty disturbing, and hard to categorize. There was some male nudity, and one scene of what amounts to homemade porn that the marines were all watching and lots of profanity, blood, gore and violence. None of it is gratuitous, though.

I'm just not sure its appropriate for a 15 year old- especially watching it unsupervised. The subject matter is pretty deep.

Except for the fact that Platoon has at least two VERY disturbing rape scenes in it. Not to mention, I VIVIDLY remember leaving the movie theatre and seeing grown men still sitting in their seats crying.

If you let him watch "Saw" then why not get something gorey and ridiculous like that? Get him an old classic gorey movie and teach him a little about history and culture :D

Jarhead has exactly ONE scene of sex in it, a flashback where Jake Gyllenhal is doing "homework" with his girlfriend - it cuts to show his bare ass jackhammering her up against a wall. not a big deal to me for a 15 year old to see. not even good jerkoff material as she is not seen naked per se (there is a brief shot of her tits but he would have to freezeframe it to get a good look and shes kinda flat chested - yep, i froze it myself).
as others have said however, it is a pretty disturbing film with lots of violence. i dont have kids but if i did i would rather them watch sex than extreme realistic violence (whats more natural, fucking or blowing someones brains out?). just my opinion of course. if you know your kid, and he can handle it, i dont see that much of a problem. on the other hand, if he is a typical 15 year old, he will get bored with it way before anything gross or sexual happens.

edit to add i forgot about the scene where this Marines wife sends him a tape and she is fucking the neighbor on it. still not exactly graphic sex IMO, but it is there. i say rent him The Road Warrior - there is a hinted rape, a tit shot, and TONS of bad ass car chases. ANY 15 year old would cream at the action in that flick....:)

As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...

It's a "guy" flick that's probably not appropraite
for kids because of the profanity and a couple of
scenes. I read somewhere that he "f" word is used
over 200 times in the movie.

It's the true story of Anthony Swofford's (Jake
Gyllenhaal in the movie)
experience in Desert
Shield ... being a jarhead in a non-war.

The directing, the music, the acting are great and
it's one of my favorite movies ... but for adults.

It's certainly not a John Wayne movie. There's a lot of disturbing violence, inappropriate sex, and very adult themes. Sure, they see all tthat on the school bus, but I try to set limits in the house. How about "Saving Private Ryan?" All the action and shooting and stuff, but not as nihilistic. Dunno, they're all disturbing at some level, but even Socrates admitted to having a streak of morbid curiosity, I guess just human nature. It's a movie I'd prefer to explain as we watched it. BTW, the protagonist almost commits murder, and his best buddy commits suicide.

Pick something different... its not that great a movie and isn't something a 15 YO really needs to see...

but that's just my opinion... :P

Not too many who weren't in the Marines, especially younger children..are going to be able to relate to alot of the stuff in this movie. This is more of a drama than it is an action movie (as the gulf war was mostly fought by smart bombs and airstrikes and the scout snipers didnt see too much action)
Totally unlike the situation in Iraq today..but yeah, most people expecting anything similar to Black Hawk Down will be dissappointed I'm sure.

Fess up ... how many times did you pause and rewind the Santa hat scene? I saw it in the theater so I only got to see it once. :(

That never ceases to amaze me about the general attitude in this country.

Violence or sex? Violence
People torturing and killing each other or people enjoying each others bodies...shudder...NAKED.? Oh torturing and killing please.

A movie where someone is beaten to death gets an R. A movie with an explicit sex scene can easily get an NC-17.

:S

I didn't end up letting my son rent the movie. Thank you to everyone who posted and helped me make an informed decision.

With regard to sex vs. violence, the violence - like in "Saw" - is make believe. Sex isn't make believe. I think that's why I'm more comfortable with the violence.

I know that probably sounds messed up :S
