lisamariewillbe 1 #1 June 13, 2006 We all had/have them... skydiving was my number one, and the only one that I thought I could achieve in my top 5. I have my entire life been fearful of the water, to scared to swim, to scared to do water training ... to scared to even really experience the water in any way shape or form besides bathing and showers. I have at times stood in a pool , or put my feet in the water... but always with a dread... The fear of water controled many things and limited me to watching on the side lines as my children played in the water with smiles of pure joy and appreciation for the experience... well I finally checked off number 3... I know how to swim... I can doggie paddle really well and thats the easiest for me and I have no fear with that at all, I can almost lap swim but I cant figure out how to breathe right so I dont go far, and most importantly I can tread water for 15 mins without freaking out about not being on the edge of a pool or touching the bottom. And I learned this all in a lake. At my age, I can now do what my children have been doing for years, I can now do what most of you have told me I was silly for not knowing. I almost even liked it, to the point I am signing up for scuba lessons this week or next (money permitting, damn costly hobbies) and looking forward to sharing an enviroment I never thought I could be part of with creatures I have admired from afar. This should be attached to my mushy thread... but its not ... Thank you for your comment, but I had no fears over my shoes or in which way they are secured, I however did achieve something most wont. I fought a deep rooted fear and learned something that I have spent my life not knowing. I am proud of myself and no one can take that away. Even if it is only learning to swim. Have a wonderful day. Dont trip and fall over your laces... Swedish ... wicked cool, on the list is rafting now that I can depend on myself and not just a life vest. I did good , sucked up the pride and displaced my fears, and dove in... all the while my kid telling me to kick harder and laughing at me. Been up all night ... gonna go back to bed and to dz.com lurking... Thanks all, its been a great night of bonfire and pms, and when I get to start jumping again I finally, FINALLY can get my water training... My only suggestion is look at your list and decide what can be done now... something that has been on your mind for years and just get out there and do it. I forgot how good it felt to actually pull the list out and cross something off. Now the list is on the fridge, instead of in the memory box... I want to move to Hawaii and live there... hubby and I would love to do that when our kid turns 18... 8 years to go!!!
