jkbernstein 1 #26 June 7, 2006 I am a total NPR geek. Not only am I addicted - I was on it! I was a contestant on "Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me" two weeks ago. I got all three questions right, and now I get to have Carl Kassell's voice on my answering machine. (I'm still trying to figure out what to have him say.) It was the highlight of my year! _____________________________________________May the (relative) wind take your troubles away...

Andrewwhyte 1 #29 June 8, 2006 The Bellingham WA station rocks. When I was working in Victoria BC I got hooked on it. The jazz was great and "All Blues" on sunday nights was fantastic. When I went to school in Ontario for a while I listened to "North Country,..something er other." The music was mostly classical. That was Ok but what really got me was learning about the little things about the people of that particular corner of New York. What they thought about the big issues of the world and what they thought made them unique in their little corner of the universe.

Also, no bad jokes about jumping.... WTF____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
jkbernstein 1 #32 June 10, 2006 Thanks! I had all sorts of witty answers to other questions I thought Peter was gonna ask, but he kinda took me by surprise with his question about what you say when you leave the plane; I couldn't really think of anything clever. I'm still working on what to have Carl say. I came up with a limerick, but the people I've told it to were underwhelmed: On our quiz show, Jess did so well, see, That she got to have Carl Kassell (me), Record my voice With her message of choice. That's the prize on Wait, Wait... (and then the phone beeps) Anyone got anything funnier, and maybe jumping-related?May the (relative) wind take your troubles away... karenmeal 0 #34 June 10, 2006 I freakin love NPR. I drive about 45-60 minutes to school each way and it makes my morning commute so much nicer. KEXP is not an NPR station, but it's a great little non-commercial station that will open your eyes to some great music. I loves me some NPR, too."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. No. "Fox News" is an oxymoron. Listen to NPR and you will know more about everything, whether you like it or not. That's because they give you the whole story using respectful dialog. Listen to Fox News and you'll get part of the story, disrespectful dialog and you'll have your opinion handed to you. So if you want to listen and think, try NPR. If you want to hear and cheer, entertain yourself with FOX.

Example: Listen to FOX's coverage of Lieberman's comments on the domestic spying issue and you get: "But this is a critically important program to the prevention of terrorist acts here in the United States. And I don't know a person here in the Senate who is against this program." Listen to NPR and you get: "I've said before that I disagree with the Bush administration's legal judgment on this one. I don't believe that they have operated within the law as it exists. But this is a critically important program -- the prevention of terrorist acts here in the United States. And I don't know a person here in the Senate who is against this program." See the difference?
Revillusion 0 #43 June 12, 2006 QuoteAnd all those people who think its liberal crap can just go watch FOX news. Fox News Rocks!, O'Reilly Rocks, Hannity Rocks! Yes, I love Fox News Channel. And, yes, I have to agree, Some of what is on NPR is alot of left wing liberal tree huggin crap. But, all I ask is that you let me enjoy mine and you can certainly enjoy yours. And, yes Donna, I listen to NPR, I actually like the Car Talk show ... but I doubt you will ever see me as a loyalist to NPR ... And of course, given Brie's course of professional study, she's expected and probably required to be a listener ... Just thank God I don't visit the Speakers Corner ... Channman 2 #44 June 12, 2006 NPR, a good place to go when they Program 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh, and 3 hours of Sean Hanity. Lets see, thats 6 hours and the other 18 can be dedecated to liberal talk, and mind soothing music.

There is a lot of "liberal" programming (latino USA, cooking, art, science, music, Thomas Jefferson Hour, Car Talk, Prarie Home Companion, Wait wait, etc.) and I find a lot of that very entertaining. But if you want solid, thorough (fair and balanced) news reporting you can't do any better than morning edition, all things considered and marketplace. Good stuff.
