Today organizations like the American Legion will be holdint flag retirement ceremonies to properly dispose of worn out and soiled US flags. There is a proper method that should be done to retire a US Flag, most people don't realize it and simply throw them away. That's too bad. Although I don't know, I would hope that other countries have similar proceedures in place to show the respect for their country's flag. Sure its just a piece of cloth, but it represents many many things beyond just a symbol for a country.
