America, why are you so crap ?

Soccer is for countries that don't play hegemony.

Hear, hear.

When I was eight years old, playing the game in the park on a daily basis throughout the summer, my father reminded me that when he was a kid, he didn't have a ball; all he had was a wad of hay tied together by strings.

And that's what most Americans just don't care to realize and can't relate to -- any nation on any given day -- no matter how poor or how powerful -- can have its chance to shine against any nation in the world no matter what the differences between the nations may be, and at the end of the game shake hands with its opponent and exchange shirts.

Not to mention the sublime skill it takes to hit a ball going 60+mph with a foot or head into a goal or the true athleticism it takes to put 100% on the field for 90 minutes with no timeouts...

Until Freddy Adu represents the USA in the WC most Americans won't realize what they're missing, and that's alright...after all, who gives a sh.t if USA goes out in the first round. Certainly, most Americans do not.

Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

> Soccer = Boring Game.
For you.

> Very Little if any scoring
Is the "quality" of a game only measured on the "quantity" of score?!?!?!?!? Naaaaaaa!!!!!! So what about sports where there no score (meant as "quantity") as gymnastic, dives and similar? While the sportman is doing it, he/she is alone, so he/she doesn't score anything.... The "quantity" of score, I am afraid, is NOT a point on ANY sport.

> Just a bunch of guys running back and forth not accomplishing much. Nope American just don’t get that game.
Yes, indeed. It's YOUR opinion. It's YOUR opinion as a (North) American.
I am afraid SOCCER is the most praticed and followed and watched sport in the WORLD.
As an Italian, I am myself a "poor" follower of soccer, but, indeed, it's a fact that soccer has got the highest number of practitioners/players in the world with respect to ANY other sport.
Soccer is very popular in Europe, Central America, South America, "something" in Asia, growing a lot in Africa (lots of fucking good African players playing in Europe), "something" in Australia (few Ozies play in UK too).
Sorry about that. It's just a fact that soccer is the most popular sport in the world. You, like it or not. Me, like it or not.
Soccer is NOT the best sport in the world, it's just the most popular. B|

230 million people, and still you fail to find any that can play football

230 million people who don't give a crap about soccer and why would we when we have the NFL. Soccer players would not stand a chance against a 400 pound linebacker whose job is to knock your body into the next century.

As long as he doesn't have to run too far, or play for more than 10 seconds at a time, and as long as he can have a decent long rest every few minutes!

Cool down mate. A sport is a sport. ANY sport is a sport, with its own rules, it's NOT a matter of how BIG I am and how I can KILL you and how FAST I can KILL you ;)

'Cos its the most drugged up pro sport in the world?

Why does that linebacker weigh 400 pounds? Could it be because he takes 4 different kinds of horse steroids with his weetabix in the morning?:P

> Did anyone see Brazil yesterday? Unbelievable what those guys can do with their feet
I watched the Brazil/Croatia match. Brazil came to the World Cup this year with a crappy team indeed, "crappy" meant as "crappy as a whole team".
Indeed, in Brazilian team there are folks extremely fit and in shape that can do the difference.
Kaka and Ronaldinho are a span over the others, they can solve the match in one single shot (Kaka proved it). All the rest of Brazilians are "average" players, up now... Hope for them they experience a breakthrough in performances (Ronaldo is a buoy, I am afraid).

My son has been playing soccer for 10 years now (he's 15). He is in incredible shape, has had a 6-pack since he was 13, and his thighs are massive. When I go to his high school and look around, about the only other kids who are in as good of shape are the swimmers. Anyone who thinks soccer is for pussies needs to actually participate in a real game. If you don't enjoy watching it, read up on the rules and watch how they are able to move the ball down the field using angles and spins on the ball. It actually takes some thought and strategy. Some of the 0-0 games are the most thrilling to watch!

True story...there is a player on his HS team that also plays football. The rules state that you can't participate in 2 sports at one time, so the kid had to wait for football to finish up before he could join the soccer team. He missed the conditioning training that they had, but you'd assume that football got him into shape, right? Wrong! He threw up at the first practice and didn't even make it through all the practices the first week without having to rest!

Soccer just isn't that interesting, kinda like hockey but outside. YUCK

And without the fights.

And without speed.
And without real contact.
and without hand eye coordination
and without 210lb+ guy moving at about 30 miles per hour shooting a wicked hard puck at 100 mph while standing on ice with metal on their feet with is less than 1/4 inch thick.

but in soccer, they kick a ball.
towards a HUGE net.

I may be wrong, but I thought Formula (Indy) racing was the most followed and watched sport? I am not a fan of either, but I do actually respect them both. Just not my idea a way I choose to pass time (watching or playing)
anyway, maybe I am wrong and Soccer is 1 and Formula cars are #2....not really sure, just thought it was the other way around.

well you're wrong... Formula 1 and Indy (or Cart or whatever) are different sports. and the remark of the previous poster wa snot about how the sport is followed, but by how many people the sport is played.

First: one thing is Formula 1 (cars with Formula 1 rules and races all over the world) and another thing is Indy Formula (cars with Indy Formula rules and races only is in US territory).
I do not know about people all over the world watching Indy Formula, for sure people all over the world follow Formula 1, but actually I do not know HOW MANY people follow it.
Something really different, anyway, between Formula 1 and soccer, is that Formula 1 can only be watched and followed, soccer can be watched and followed AND played by ANY kid in the world, what it is needed is only a ball and a field/street/flat surface. For sure soccer is the sport which is practiced and played by the highest number of people in the world, considering as players ALL the real players, not only the "enlisted in official teams members".
Think only about how many kids in Europe and South America do play soccer just for fun, without ever been enlisted in official teams of any sort (myself included, since when I was a kid until I was 18 (but I played few tournaments when I was at University)).
There is NO WAY a kid can drive a Formula 1 car (or ANY car) and do a race.
Formula 1: only followed and watched.
Soccer: followed and watched AND played :)

No but their foot eye coordination is pretty good - hence the name....

I have a lot of respect for hockey playes skill, but as a spectator sport it leaves me pretty cold (pun not intended) - i guess it is better if you are the rinkside, but on TV the puck is hard to follow and its just very dull to watch, like basketball.

Thats Funny.
My Daughter started Racing when she was 8 years old (A little late here as many start CART Racing at 5 years old) but by the time she was 12 she was Number 6 in the nation in the NHRA standings. She was running 8.90s at 80+ MPH in the 1/8th mile. You try to tell her Kids cant drive. LOL!!

OK, my friend. If we talk by exceptions, then, let's stop ANY argument.
OK, few kids can drive and so on and so on. Yes, also in Italy it is possible for kids to drive small cars and so on, but how many kids do that?!?!?!?!?
Now, tell me, please: how many kids in the world can play soccer and how many kids in the world can drive a car and do races?!?!?!?!?
Soccer can be played by ANY kid on the world, cars can be driven only by few non-poor kids in few places in the world....
Think on how many poor kids in South America can (and do) play soccer, and think now how many of them can drive a car and do races....
I am afraid that what happens in few places in US is NOT what happens all over (the rest of) the world....

The only team sports america is good at are the sports that are only played by american and canadians.

Rugby-no
Soccer-no
cricket-no
rugby league-no
netball-no
americas cup yachting-no
:D
the whitbread yacht race-no
field hockey-no

I will go on record saying though that i think at the next rugby world cup that the USA will make it to the quater finals.

I know america is great at american football, and ice hockey and 'the world series baseball' but what other country plays these on a national level?
